Rays placed OF Desmond Jennings on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 26, with left knee bursitis.

The club had been hoping Jennings could return to action over the weekend, but he simply hasn't progressed as hoped. The backdated DL move means he'll be eligible to return on May 11, although it's not a given that he'll be ready at that time. Brandon Guyer will continue to see extra playing time while Jennings is out, and Joey Butler could also get a shot.

Freddy Galvis is not in the Phillies' lineup Sunday.

It looks like just a routine day off. Cesar Hernandez is at shortstop Sunday in Galvis' place.

Carlos Ruiz is not in the Phillies' lineup Sunday.

Many starting catchers get a breather on Sundays, and that's the case here with Ruiz. Cameron Rupp will catch Severino Gonzalez.

Kyle Kendrick will start for the Rockies on Sunday in San Diego, pushing Tyler Matzek back to Monday.

The club wants to split up left-handers Matzek and Jorge De La Rosa, who started Saturday. It's good news for Kendrick, who now gets to start at Petco Park rather than Coors Field.

Sean O'Sullivan (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Lakewood on Thursday.

It's uncertain how many rehab outings he'll need. With David Buchanan being sent to Triple-A, it appears that O'Sullivan will retain his rotation spot for now even with Chad Billingsley (elbow) returning from the disabled list.

Marlon Byrd is absent from the Reds' lineup Sunday.

It looks like he's just getting a breather. Skip Schumaker is in left field Sunday in Byrd's place.
May 3 - 9:55 AM

Billy Hamilton is not in the Reds' lineup Sunday.

It appears to just be a day of rest. Brennan Boesch is handling center field Sunday in Hamilton's place.

Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that "one scenario" has Carlos Rodon joining the White Sox' rotation on May 10 versus the Reds.

Van Schouwen says that "there’s speculation" Jeff Samardzija and Chris Sale will drop the appeals of their five-game suspensions after their starts this week against the Tigers, which could open up a rotation spot next weekend for Rodon. Even if May 10 doesn't turn out to be the date of Rodon's first start, there's no doubting he's going to be entering the rotation soon. The lefty holds a 2.84 ERA over 6 1/3 relief innings, although it's come along with a 2.05 WHIP and 4/4 K/BB ratio. Still, the potential with Rodon is obviously sky-high, so feel free to stash him now if he's still on your waiver wire. Hector Noesi is expected to be booted from the rotation to make room for Rodon.
