Cubs re-assigned 2B Jemile Weeks and OF Chris Dominguez to minor league camp.

Both players are currently injured. Weeks will try to come back as depth at Triple-A Iowa after he recovers from a knee ailment.

Rule 5 pick LHP Caleb Smith has been returned to the Yankees.

The Cubs took a shot on Smith, but he never had a really good shot of cracking their roster. The southpaw posted a 4.26 ERA with seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings this spring.

Jesus Aguilar has made the Brewers' roster.

There wasn't any doubt, as Aguilar is out of options and has mashed the ball to the tune of a .463 average, six homers and 16 RBI this spring. The former Indians prospect should see some starts against left-handed pitching and it's not out of the question that he could push Eric Thames for the first base job if Thames gets off to a rough start.

Rockies signed C Ryan Hanigan to a minor league contract.

Hanigan caught on quickly after being cut loose by the Phillies on Monday. MLB.com's Thomas Harding says the deal is worth $1.25 million if Hanigan is in the majors. It's unclear whether the plan is for the Rockies to immediately add him to the big league roster, but he could serve as Tony Wolters' backup while Tom Murphy (forearm) recovers.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers are willing to eat the entirety of Mike Pelfrey's $8 million salary in order to move him in a trade.

Pelfrey never had a real shot at a rotation spot this spring, and he's struggled with a 7.36 ERA. It appears the Tigers would rather just free up the roster spot than try him out in long relief. While Detroit might be trying to deal him, he'll probably just wind up being released. Pelfrey held a 5.07 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in 2016.

Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press reports that Matt Boyd will open the season as the Tigers' fifth starter.

He beat out veteran Anibal Sanchez for the gig. Sanchez had an awful start this spring but came on really strong of late after tweaking his mechanics. However, Boyd has been arguably the Tigers' best pitcher all camp, putting up a 2.49 ERA and 21/0 K/BB ratio across 21 2/3 innings. The left-hander holds a 5.64 ERA over his first 154 2/3 frames in the majors, but he's been excellent in the minors and is a worthy late-round flier in fantasy formats. Sanchez will pitch in long relief.

Martin Maldonado drove in five runs Tuesday to help the Angels rout the Athletics 14-3 in Cactus League play.

Maldonado hit a two-run single in the Angels' five-run fifth inning and then slugged a three-run homer in the sixth off A's minor leaguer Grant Holmes. Even after the big day, Maldonado is still batting just .133 with a .445 OPS this spring. He'll open the 2017 regular season as the Angels' primary catcher.

Jimmy Rollins is not expected to make the Giants' Opening Day roster.

Rollins was trying to make it as a utility player, but he was awful this spring with just five hits in 40 at-bats. It sounds like the Giants would like him to play at Triple-A Sacramento, but the 38-year-old seems unlikely to agree to that. This could be the end of the line.
