L.J. Hoes will be called up on Monday.
And right-hander Asher Wojciechowski will be sent to Triple-A Fresno to open up a 25-man roster spot. Houston wants an extra position player for its three-game series in San Diego, a National League stadium. Hoes will probably be shipped back to Fresno on Thursday.
Javy Guerra (shoulder) is scheduled to being a rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Charlotte.
Guerra has been sidelined since April 13 with mild inflammation in his right shoulder. He had rattled off three straight scoreless appearances for the White Sox before landing on the disabled list and should be ready return to Chicago's bullpen later this week.
White Sox sent LHP Eric Surkamp outright to Triple-A Charlotte.
The 27-year-old left-hander was designated for assignment over the weekend to clear a roster spot for Scott Carroll. Surkamp owns a 6.20 career ERA in the majors.
Edinson Volquez has dropped the appeal of his five-game suspension.
Volquez was given the five-game sentence Saturday for his role in last Thursday's benches-clearing brawl with the White Sox, during which the right-hander landed a punch on an unsuspecting Chicago player. Volquez is eligible to return to the rotaiton May 2.
Rays transferred C John Jaso from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Jaso injured his left wrist on a slide into third base during the Rays' season-opening game April 6 against the Orioles. It was initially called a contusion, but it's clearly much more serious than that. He won't be eligible for activation until early June.
Rays acquired LHP Xavier Cedeno from the Dodgers for cash considerations.
It's been a wacky couple of weeks for Cedeno, who was designated for assignment by the Nationals on April 14, traded to the Dodgers on April 22, and then DFA'd by Los Angeles on April 24. Now he heads to Tampa Bay, where he'll presumably slide into a lefty specialist role. The 28-year-old left-hander has a 5.24 career ERA in 55 major league innings.
Jose Bautista (shoulder) is planning to take batting practice before Monday's game in Boston.
He won't be in the Blue Jays' starting lineup on Monday night, but Bautista does expect to return at some point during this three-game series at Fenway Park. The 34-year-old slugger has been out since last Tuesday with a right shoulder strain. He had four home runs and 10 RBI in 14 games before the injury.
Brewers released RHP Chris Perez.
Perez signed a minor league contract with the Brewers on March 31 but exercised his opt-out Monday after allowing 14 hits and eight earned runs in 7 2/3 innings at Triple-A Colorado Springs. The 29-year-old former All-Star closer will hope for better results with a change of scenery. He posted a 4.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 46 1/3 innings with the Dodgers in 2014.
