Marco Scutaro admitted that his back tightened up on him late during Saturday's game.

It's not unexpected, as Scutaro still isn't 100 percent and was playing in his first game of the season. He's essentially going to be day-to-day for the rest of the season, but the Giants are hoping he'll be able to gut it out without going back on the DL. "I know my back is not 100 percent," Scutaro said. "I'll just try to fight through it, day by day, and go from there."

Rockies outfield prospect Raimel Tapia went 5-for-8 with two doubles and a stolen base for Low-A Asheville on Saturday, raising his season line to .333/.385/.463.

After a slow April, Tapia has hit .366/.419/.513 with 18 doubles, one triple, and five home runs since the beginning of May. Tapia has average power and is likely to end up in an outfield corner, but he has a balanced swing with an innate ability to square up pitches. He has the talent to hit .315-plus in the majors, but is unlikely to reach the the majors until 2017.

Pirates activated LHP Francisco Liriano from the 15-day disabled list.

Liriano will make his return to the Pirates' rotation on Sunday against the Reds after missing a month with a strained left oblique. He held a 4.60 ERA before going on the DL but is probably worth starting in fantasy leagues immediately against a Reds lineup that's missing a couple key pieces.

Pirates optioned 1B Matt Hague to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Hague was hitless in two at-bats during his brief time with the big club. He's clearing room for the return of Francisco Liriano (oblique).

Royals pitching prospect Kyle Zimmer (lat) will resume throwing on Monday.

Zimmer has missed all season with a strained lat and hasn't thrown since having a setback in May. The hope is that the top prospect will be ready for one-inning outings late in the minor league season. He'll also no doubt pitch in the Arizona Fall League and/or winter ball.
Jul 13 - 10:52 AM

Indians outfield prospect Clint Frazier went 2-for-5 with a triple and a home run for Low-A Lake County on Saturday.

Frazier has gone 7-for-10 with a triple and three home runs in his last two games, raising his season line from .253/.326/.389 to .268/.337/.435. He also struck out twice, and is second in the Midwest League with 97 strikeouts on the season.

Salvador Perez is not in the Royals' lineup Sunday.

It's a little surprising given that they're facing the Tigers and have the All-Star break coming, but manager Ned Yost obviously felt that his catcher needed a day. Brett Hayes is behind the plate Sunday in Perez's place.

Reds third base prospect Seth Mejias-Brean went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two walks for Double-A Pensacola on Saturday, and is now hitting .276/.415/.355 in 22 games in the Southern league.

Mejias-Brean has 17 walks and nine strikeouts in Double-A. He is not hitting for nearly as much power as he was in the California League, but that is likely a product of both better pitching and a more neutral offensive environment.
