Orioles optioned 2B Ryan Flaherty.
The Orioles needed to make room for Jonathan Schoop. Flaherty could return to the roster as soon as Monday. That's when the O's are expected to place Nolan Reimold on the paternity list. Usually when someone gets sent down they have to stay in the minors for a minimum of 10 days, but that doesn't apply to players on paternity leave.
Nolan Reimold is expected to go on the paternity list after Sunday's game.
He can be away from the team for up to three days. The 31-year-old has played sparingly this year, making just 38 at-bats over 16 games. The 10-day minor league rehab window doesn't apply to players on paternity leave. That allows Ryan Flaherty to take Reimold's roster spot even though he was just optioned on Saturday.
Orioles activated Jonathan Schoop (knee) from the 15-day disabled list.
He rejoined the Orioles in Chicago Saturday after completing a 10-game rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie and High-A Frederick. The 23-year-old hit .259 in nine games before a sprained PCL sent him to the disabled list in mid-April. Ryan Flaherty was optioned in the corresponding roster move.
Rangers optioned RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez to Triple-A Round Rock.
The Rangers don't need him now that Matt Harrison is off the disabled list. Though it didn't last as long as he hoped, Gonzalez's first stint in the big leagues was a success. In seven starts, the right-hander posted a 3.74 ERA while limiting opponents to a .220 batting average. He even threw a shutout June 5 at Kansas City. He'll be back with Texas at some point this year.
Matt Harrison's season debut was moved to Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
By pushing Harrison's start to Wednesday, the Rangers are able to get two more starts out of red-hot Yovani Gallardo. Back issues have kept Harrison sidelined since April 2014. Harrison's return bumped Chi Chi Gonzalez from the starting rotation.
Rangers recalled RHP Anthony Ranaudo from Triple-A Round Rock.
Ranaudo will serve as the Rangers' long man with Yovani Gallardo set to start Tuesday and Sunday leading up to the All-Star break. Matt Harrison will make his season debut Wednesday against Arizona. Rookie Chi Chi Gonzalez was sent down to Round Rock in the corresponding roster move.
The Twins are moving Trevor May to the bullpen.
There was speculation Minnesota would go with a six-man rotation upon Ervin Santana's return, but clearly that's not happening. Manager Paul Molitor said May's move to the pen isn't permanent and suggested the Twins could reassess the rotation after the All-Star break.
Astros optioned OF Domingo Santana to Triple-A Fresno.
The Astros needed to clear a roster spot for Jake Marisnick. Santana hit .256 with 2 HR and 8 RBI during his 14-game stint with Houston. The 22-year-old has a higher ceiling than Alex Presley and could get another call-up while George Springer is on the disabled list with a broken wrist.
