Victor Martinez went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored on Friday as the Tigers topped the Blue Jays 8-6.

Since returning from the disabled list on June 19, his bat has certainly perked up, hitting .321 (18-for-56) with a homer and 10 RBI. With Miguel Cabrera leaving Friday's game with a calf injury, Martinez could be required to shoulder a large load in the Tigers' offense in the coming weeks.

Joakim Soria worked a scoreless ninth inning on Friday to protect a two-run advantage against the Blue Jays.

Soria allowed just a single and struck out two during his inning of work. He has been a rock at the back of the Tigers' bullpen this season, compiling a 2.48 ERA and 28/5 K/BB ratio over 32 2/3 innings while converting 18 of his first 20 save chances.
Jul 3 - 10:17 PM

Anibal Sanchez came within five outs of his second career no-hitter on Friday, and ended up surrendering four runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings of work.

Sanchez struck out five and walked three on the night. He was absolutely dominant through the first seven frames, but walked Justin Smoak in the seventh inning then allowed a one-out single to Ezequiel Carrera. He was left in to face the next two hitters who also singled, before giving way to the Tigers' bullpen. The Jays ended up striking for six runs in the inning, included the three runners the bullpen inherited from Sanchez. He has now won each of his last four decisions and will look to extend that streak when he takes on the Mariners in Seattle on Wednesday.
Jul 3 - 10:15 PM

Dioner Navarro went 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI in a losing effort against the Tigers on Friday.

The Blue Jays had been no-hit through 7 1/3 innings in the contest before erupting for six runs in the eighth inning. Sadly, it was still not enough for the Jays to overcome the poor pitching from Drew Hutchison. Navarro is now hitting .235/.290/.358 with 11 RBI on the season.
Jul 3 - 10:13 PM

Drew Hutchison's struggles away from Toronto continued in Friday's loss to the Tigers as the right-hander was hammered for seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Hutchison walked a pair and struck out four on the night. After holding the Tigers to just one run through the first three innings, the wheels fell off in the fourth inning as they broke through for five runs, including a pair that were unearned. He's now 6-1 with a 2.12 ERA at home this season and 2-1 with an absurdly bad 9.00 ERA on the road. He should be avoided for fantasy purposes when he takes on the White Sox in Chicago on Wednesday.
Jul 3 - 10:11 PM

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Friday that the team has discussed promoting top prospect Michael Conforto from Double-A Binghampton.

The 22-year-old outfielder began the season at High-A St. Lucie and has slashed a torrid .300/.373/.485 with 10 homers and 46 RBI across two minor league levels. With the offensive struggles that the team has had, it isn't surprising that they would consider adding this potentially game-changing bat, though Alderson cautions that he doesn't expect it to happen "in the near-term".
Jul 3 - 9:07 PM

Miguel Cabrera has been diagnosed with a left calf strain and is set to undergo an MRI exam.

Cabrera sustained the injury while running the bases during Friday's game against the Blue Jays. The Tigers will know more on his status after the MRI, but a trip to the disabled list could be in play here.
Jul 3 - 9:03 PM

Clint Robinson blasted a two-run homer on Friday, powering the Nationals to a 2-1 victory over the Giants.

Jake Peavy and Gio Gonzalez were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel until the seventh inning when Buster Posey cranked a solo homer to give the Giants the lead. It would be short-lived though, as Robinson blasted his two-run shot in the bottom half of the inning, proving to be the difference in the game. He has done a nice job in limited action for the Nationals, slashing .264/.338/424 with four homers and 15 RBI.
