Yandy Diaz had made the Indians' Opening Day roster.

He locked down one of the Indians' final bench spots after hitting .429 with two homers and 13 RBI over 42 Cactus League at-bats. The 25-year-old could be close to an everyday player while Jose Ramirez fills in for Jason Kipnis (shoulder) at second base. Michael Martinez has also made the team while Erik Gonzalez and Gio Urshela are both headed to Triple-A Columbus.

Anthony Santander (elbow) will open the season on the 10-day disabled list.

Elbow inflammation has sidelined Santander for the past couple of weeks. Placing him on the DL buys the Orioles more time to figure out what to do with him. The 22-year-old is an exciting talent but spent all of last year at High-A and probably isn't ready for the major leagues.

The Orioles announced Chris Tillman (shoulder) will begin the season on the 10-day disabled list.

So will Wade Miley (illness) and Anthony Santander (elbow). Tillman has been nursing a shoulder injury for the last month but recently resumed throwing and is tentatively scheduled to pitch in an extended spring training game on April 11. If that goes well, he could be ready to join the rotation by the end of April. Tillman's 16 victories last year matched a career-high.

Jesmuel Valentin will begin the season with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He was vying for a bench spot but lost out to Brock Stassi and Daniel Nava. Valentina more than held his own in the Grapefruit League, batting a robust .366 over 41 at-bats. The 22-year-old should debut in the big leagues later this year.

Brock Stassi has made the Phillies' Opening Day roster.

This became a foregone conclusion once the Phillies released Chris Coghlan. Stassi had an electric spring, batting .339 across with six round-trippers over 56 Grapefruit League at-bats. Raking in March isn't the same as doing it against big leaguers in April, but the 27-year-old did more than enough to earn his spot. It's a nice story, but there's no fantasy value here.
Mar 30 - 4:39 PM

Dustin Pedroia went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI as the Red Sox beat the Nationals 8-1 on Thursday.

Pedroia ends the spring 19-for-39, giving him a cool .487 average. Typically a No. 2 hitter in previous years, he'll occupy the leadoff spot in Boston's order on Opening Day.
Mar 30 - 4:38 PM

Kyle Kendrick moved to 4-0 on the spring by holding the Nationals to one run in four innings Thursday.

He struck out five. Kendrick was reassigned Tuesday, but he could still be up with the Red Sox in very short order if Drew Pomeranz isn't ready to come off the DL on April 9. His sterling spring included a 2.18 ERA and a 31/4 K/BB ratio in 34 innings.
Mar 30 - 4:36 PM

Joe Ross surrendered four runs in five innings Thursday in a loss to the Red Sox.

Ross struck out seven, but he gave up eight hits. Ross's spring concludes with a 3.93 ERA and an 18/5 K/BB ratio in 18 1/3 innings. He's one of our favorite value picks among starting pitchers this year.
