Giants purchased the contract of RHP Vin Mazzaro from Triple-A Sacramento.

The 29-year-old right-hander will provide depth in the Giants bullpen with his ability to work multiple innings. He compiled a 0.64 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 9/4 K/BB ratio across 14 innings at Triple-A Sacramento.
Apr 30 - 1:54 PM

Pirates optioned RHP Rob Scahill to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Scahill became the odd-man out in the Pirates bullpen with Jared Hughes returning from the disabled list on Saturday. Scahill appeared in eight games for the Pirates, compiling a 6.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 5/3 K/BB ratio across six innings. He should get another opportunity with the big league club this summer.
Apr 30 - 1:48 PM

Pirates activated RHP Jared Hughes from the 15-day disabled list.

The right-hander has been sidelined since the spring with a strained lat, but is now fully recovered and ready to go. He'll work in his traditional middle relief role for the Pirates.
Apr 30 - 1:45 PM

Carlos Gomez is not in the Astros starting lineup on Saturday.

Gomez returned to action on Friday after missing a game after he was drilled in the wrist by a pitch during Wednesday's contest. It's unclear if his absence on Saturday is due to the wrist or simply because he's hitting .213/.241/.275 on the year. Preston Tucker is starting in left field with Colby Rasmus manning center field defensively.
Apr 30 - 1:36 PM

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Friday that he expects Jhonny Peralta (thumb) to begin a minor league rehab assignment around May 21.

With that timetable in mind, Mozeliak noted that Peralta would likely need about a week's worth of games before he's ready to rejoin the Cardinals. Barring any setbacks, he could be looking at a return to the big league roster during the first week of June.
Apr 30 - 1:13 PM

Athletics optioned RHP Andrew Triggs to Triple-A Nashville.

Triggs was with the club just for a day as an extra bullpen arm, and is being sent back down to make room for Saturday's starter, Jesse Hahn. He'll continue to serve as bullpen depth at Triple-A and should be back with the big league club before long.
Apr 30 - 12:50 PM

Athletics recalled RHP Jesse Hahn from Triple-A Nashville.

Hahn will make his season debut on Saturday against the Astros. As long as he pitches well, he has a chance to stick for a while given all of the injuries experienced in the A's rotation.
Apr 30 - 12:42 PM

Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros.

Being a day game after a night game, Vogt will take a seat and allow Josh Phegley to work behind the plate. Phegley will bat eighth against opposing right-hander Chris Devenski on Saturday.
