Ryan Howard received a cortisone shot in his left knee on Sunday.

The Phillies said that a "change" was found in his meniscus, as well as inflammation. Howard is considered day-to-day for now, but he could require a stint on the disabled list if he doesn't see improvement following the cortisone shot.

Carlos Ruiz was diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his right hamstring and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Tough break for Ruiz, who had a late start to the season following his 25-game suspension. The injury will likely leave him on the shelf until mid-to-late June. Erik Kratz and Humberto Quintero will fill in behind the late for now.

Brian McCann is not in Monday's lineup against the Twins.

He'll take a seat after catching three straight days. Gerald Laird is paired up with Julio Teheran once again.

Shin-Soo Choo is in Monday's lineup against the Mets.

Choo wasn't in the original lineup, but that's only because Reds manager Dusty Baker thought that Jon Niese was pitching. However, he's back in there since Shaun Marcum is pitching for New York. Look for Choo to get the day off Tuesday.

Ryan Doumit is out of the Twins' lineup for the second straight day Monday.

Doumit is still dealing with some soreness following a collision at home plate on Saturday. Consider him day-to-day.

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Friday that Kyle Gibson, P.J. Walters, or Sam Deduno will be called up to start Friday against the Tigers.

The Twins optioned left-hander Pedro Hernandez to Triple-A Rochester on Monday, which immediately led to speculation that Gibson could get the call. The 25-year-old right-hander has a 3.25 ERA and 46/14 K/BB ratio in 52 2/3 innings through eight starts this season in Triple-A. Even if the Twins opt for Walters or Deduno, it's just a matter of time before Gibson arrives.

Dodgers activated LHP Ted Lilly from the 15-day disabled list.

Lilly has been sidelined since April 29 with a strained right rib cage. The Dodgers have the option to skip the fifth spot in the rotation on Thursday, so it's not clear if the veteran southpaw will pitch as a starter or reliever initially.

Dodgers optioned RHP Matt Magill to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Ted Lilly was called up to take his spot on the active roster. Magill limited the Braves to an unearned run over five innings on Sunday and holds a 5.00 ERA and 19/13 K/BB ratio in 18 innings over four starts this season.
