Derek Fisher went 2-for-4 with three more steals Friday, giving him 10 stolen bases this spring.

Fisher has been a fine basestealer in the minors, but nothing like this; he was 28-for-35 in 129 games last year and 31-for-38 in 123 games in 2015. He's a pretty solid hitter, too, and it's possible he could factor into the Astros' left field mix by season's end. He's also potential trade bait.

Lonnie Chisenhall exited Friday's game against the Cubs after colliding with the outfield wall.

Chisenhall appeared to be grabbing at his right shoulder as he walked off the field with a trainer and manager Terry Francona. The Indians should have an update on their right fielder shortly.

Jay Bruce - OF - Mets

Jay Bruce went 0-for-3 on Friday, leaving him with a .200 average in 35 at-bats this spring.

Michael Conforto has 220 points of OPS on Bruce this spring (.911 to .693), but it doesn't figure to make any sort of difference; Bruce will be the Mets' regular right fielder and Conforto will likely head to Triple-A, even though he's the better player.

Blue Jays optioned RHP Danny Barnes to Triple-A Buffalo.

He put up a 5.79 ERA over six appearances this spring. Barnes pitched well in his brief time with the Jays last season and has put up terrific numbers in the minors, so he'll get another shot soon enough.

J.D. Martinez will be shut down for 3-4 weeks after being diagnosed with a sprained Lisfranc ligament in his right foot.

Martinez doesn't need surgery, but he'll be in a cast for 7-10 days and won't be ready for baseball activities again until well into April. It will obviously be quite a while after that before he's ready to play in a major league game. Steven Moya is likely to handle right field while Martinez is on the shelf.

Masahiro Tanaka has been named the Yankees' Opening Day starter.

It's no surprise, of course. He'll be followed by CC Sabathia and Michael Pineda, with the other two spots in the rotation to be determined. Tanaka put up a 3.07 ERA across 31 starts for the Yankees last season.
Mar 24 - 3:58 PM

Chris Stewart exited Friday's game against the Rays with a sore left groin.

The Pirates are calling him day-to-day, so it doesn't sound like anything that might keep him from being available for Opening Day. Stewart will be the Bucs' backup catcher this season.

Giants released RHP David Hernandez.

Hernandez requested and was granted his released after being told he wasn't going to make the Opening Day roster. The veteran reliever posted a 4.76 ERA over six relief appearances this spring. He has struck out over a batter per inning during his career and shouldn't be out of a job long.
