Wade Davis recorded his 25th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning in Friday's win over the Blue Jays.

Tasked with protecting a three-run lead, Davis shut things down with no issues by inducing a couple groundouts along with a strikeout. He's a perfect 25-for-25 in save opportunities this season.

Victor Caratini reached base in all four of his plate appearances Friday versus the Blue Jays.

The rookie catcher singled twice, doubled and drew a walk. Caratini has started three of the last six games, splitting the duties evenly with Alex Avila over that stretch. Avila still ultimately figures to get most of starts while Willson Contreras (hamstring) is out.

Robbie Ray (head) has been cleared to rejoin the Diamondbacks' rotation next week against the Mets.

Ray made it through Thursday's minor league rehab start without any issues, fanning 11 over 4 2/3 innings of two-run ball at High-A Visalia. Prior to his injury, Ray compiled a 3.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 151/58 K/BB ratio across 118 2/3 innings.

Odubel Herrera (hamstring) remained out of the Phillies' starting lineup on Friday.

It's the fourth straight game that the outfielder has missed with his hamstring injury. Phillies' manager Pete Mackanin has indicated that a decision on the disabled list will come soon if Herrera doesn't improve.

Javier Baez launched a two-run homer and added an RBI single in Friday's win over the Blue Jays.

Baez plated a run with a single in the second inning and gave the Cubs some much needed insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth with a long two-run shot off of Tim Mayza. The 24-year-old now has an even 20 home runs on the season, and half of them have come since the All-Star break. He's also hitting .308 in the second half.

Josh Tomlin (hamstring) is expected to throw a simulated game on Monday.

That's provided that everything goes smoothly with his bullpen session on Friday. The veteran right-hander has been sidelined since the end of July due to left hamstring strain. Provided he can avoid any setbacks, he should be ready to rejoin the Indians' rotation in early September.

Steve Pearce went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Friday's loss to the Cubs.

Pearce got the scoring started when he plated Justin Smoak in the top of the first inning. He added another single in the eighth and scored a run. The 34-year-old has been terrific so far for the Blue Jays in the second half.

Pirates recalled LHP Steven Brault from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Brault has posted a nifty 1.94 ERA and 109/44 K/BB ratio over 120 1/3 innings for Indy this season. He'll work in long relief for now.
