Mike Jurecki of FOX Sports 910 Phoenix expects Frostee Rucker to fill the starting left end spot vacated by Darnell Dockett.

Rucker is a soon-to-be 31-year-old who has made 36 career starts, with all but one of those coming with the Bengals. He has 12 career sacks and four forced fumbles. Rucker is merely an average player. We'd expect third-rounder Kareem Martin and/or fifth-rounder Ed Stinson to eventually overtake him.

Josh Gordon's one-year suspension for violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy has been upheld on appeal.

Gordon's one-year suspension begins today, which technically means he won't be allowed around the Browns for 2015 OTAs, minicamp and most of training camp. Perhaps the NFL will grant him reinstatement earlier, based on good behavior and the absurd delay with the appeal ruling. Regardless, the the Browns will now have to go to battle for the whole 2014 season with Jordan Cameron as the centerpiece of their passing game and Andrew Hawkins/Miles Austin as complements. We're confident Gordon, still just 23 years old and brimming with truly special talent, will be back with a vengeance. He's just got some growing up to do.

Cowboys signed RB Phillip Tanner.

Tanner was brought back simply to carry the load on Thursday night. Joseph Randle (oblique) and Ryan Williams (groin) are both fighting minor injuries. Look for Tanner to be back on the waiver wire come Saturday.

Cody Latimer is expected to be used in some of the Broncos' red-zone packages.

Even if Wes Welker (concussion) suits up Week 1, it sounds like the Broncos have a role for Latimer. At 6'2/215 with exceptionally strong hands and a penchant for winning 50/50 balls, he's a logical candidate to do some Eric Decker things near the goal-line. It's still unclear if Latimer is ahead of Andre Caldwell on the depth chart in base packages -- the veteran ran ahead of the second-round rookie in the third preseason game.

Both coach Ron Rivera and Cam Newton said there's "no doubt" he'll play Week 1 despite a rib injury.

Newton has hairline fractures in a few of his ribs, but quarterbacks regularly play through this injury. It's typically a question of pain management. We'll know more on Newton next week when the Panthers begin official preparations for the Bucs, but he's safe to pen into lineups. Rivera said the zone-read will still be in play despite Cam's injury.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer is "hearing rumblings" that the Josh Gordon decision could come down Wednesday.

The lengthy delay has "baffled" the Browns, infuriated fans and confounded fantasy drafters. Hopefully, we'll know exactly how many games Gordon is going to miss this season before nightfall tonight. Given how long the process has taken, it's reasonable to think arbitrator Harold Henderson has been allowing the sides to negotiate some kind of settlement. That would be fantastic news for Gordon, as he's facing a one-year ban from the league.

According to Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson, "it looks like (Giovani) Bernard and (Jeremy) Hill could both get about 200 attempts" on the ground this season.

Hobson notes that Hill "changed the tenor" of Cincinnati's third preseason game against Arizona, and expects the rookie's "power running" to be a particular "boon" against division rivals Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Hobson also wonders if BenJarvus Green-Ellis may have played his final game as a Bengal. Clearly the best inside runner on the Bengals' roster, Hill continues to be severely undervalued at his mid-10th-round ADP. If Gio only winds up with 200 carries, it's going to be difficult to reach the 300 touches many have projected him for.

Kenny Stills (quad) is considered questionable for Week 1.

Stills sat out each of the first two preseason games due to his quad and then aggravated it on Saturday night. Recurring soft-tissue injuries are never good, especially this close to the opener. The Saints should play it safe considering all the depth they have at wideout: Marques Colston, Brandin Cooks, Nick Toon, Robert Meachem, Joe Morgan.
