Lucas Duda hit three homers to plate all three Mets runs Wednesday against the Padres.

Oddly enough, the last player to have three homers to account for all of a team's runs was Duda's old competitor, Ike Davis, on July 8, 2012. The Mets lost that one to the Diamondbacks 6-3. Tonight, they lost 7-3. Duda has six homers in his last four games after hitting three in his previous 46 games. Hopefully, he can stay hot like he did in April.

Matt Holliday (quad) will undergo an MRI Wednesday night to determine the severity of his injury.

He was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Reds after aggravating the injury. The Cardinals want to determine the severity as quickly as possible, as it may impact their trade pursuits prior to Friday's trade deadline.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said late Wednesday that the rumored deal to acquire Carlos Gomez from the Brewers "will not transpire".

The reported deal had the Mets sending Zack Wheeler and Wilmer Flores to the Brewers in exchange for the outfielder. The deal was reportedly pending physicals, and still could be, but it doesn't sound as if it's a sure thing at this point. Stay tuned.

Albert Pujols went yard for the 30th time this year, but the Angels wound up losing on Wednesday to the Astros by a 6-3 score.

Pujols did his part in attempting to spur a comeback, clubbing a solo home run in the ninth inning against Luke Gregerson to make it 6-2, but the Halos ultimately fell short. He went 1-for-4 on the night. Pujols is one homer shy of Mike Trout's 31 for the major league lead. He's also knocked in 64 runs while hitting .260/.323/.539.

Preston Tucker homered in Wednesday's win against the Angels, which helped the Astros retake sole possession of first place in the AL West.

Tucker's solo shot pushed the Astros' lead to 3-1 in the sixth inning against Garrett Richards. He finished 1-for-3 with a walk. The outfielder has been on a rampage, homering five times in his last eight games, giving him 10 on the year with 28 RBI and a .262/.319/.477 batting line.

Jon Singleton went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI single, and a solo home run to help the Astros take down the Angels on Wednesday.

Singleton pushed the Astros' lead to 4-1 in the seventh inning with a solo home run off of Garrett Richards, his first round-tripper of the year. He added an RBI single in the eighth to add insurance. It's only his second multi-hit game of the season as he hasn't exactly done a whole lot at the plate in 16 games, batting .205/.321/.318 with six RBI.

Garrett Richards came apart late, allowing four runs in 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.

Richards had a no-hitter through the first four innings, but the Astros manufactured a pair of runs in the fifth, then clubbed a solo home run in both the sixth and seventh. Overall, the right-hander gave up seven hits and two walks while striking out three. Richards has cobbled together a fine season, currently holding a 3.38 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and a 91/41 K/BB ratio over 122 2/3 innings. He'll take a crack at the struggling Indians at home next week.

Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Phillies will acquire Matt Harrison, Alec Asher, Jerad Eickhoff, Nick Williams, Jorge Alfaro and Nick Williams in exchange for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman.

Alfaro, Williams and Thompson are the three best prospects in the deal, and represent a nice return package for the Phillies. The Rangers get another ace to pair with Yu Darvish for the next few seasons as they strive to return to glory in the American League West.
