Dropped to the sixth spot in the lineup, Jedd Gyorko went 0-for-3 with a strikeout Saturday against the Giants.

Gyorko opened the season batting third and fourth, but he's hitting just .148 in 18 games, necessitating the drop. He's 2-for-18 since landing his five-year, $35 million deal on April 14.

Hunter Pence went 0-for-4 on Saturday to drop his average to .188.

Pence has swiped four bases in the early going, but he has just one homer and three RBI in 69 at-bats. He's part of the reason the Giants have lost their last three games by a combined score of 7-3.

Jose Quintana was shelled for five runs in five innings Saturday as the White Sox fell to the Rangers.

Quintana was excellent last Sunday against the Indians but looked like a completely different pitcher Saturday night in Arlington, Texas. The Rangers got to him for nine hits -- including a homer and three doubles -- and gave him his first loss of the season. He will try to bounce back next week in Detroit.

Dan Haren moved to 3-0 after allowing five runs -- two earned -- in 7 1/3 innings against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Haren gave up three unearned runs (four total) after a Hanley Ramirez error in the third. The last run came after Brian Wilson replaced him with a man on first and one out in the eighth; he subsequently gave up a two-run double before escaping the inning. Haren didn't look too good towards the end of the spring, but he has a 2.08 ERA and a 20/2 K/BB ratio in 25 innings now. That he's faced the Padres and the reeling Diamondbacks twice has certainly helped.

Mike Bolsinger was tagged for seven runs -- six earned -- in four innings by the Dodgers in his major league debut Saturday.

Bolsinger lacks major league-quality stuff, and he was only called up because the Diamondbacks are both panicking and too thrifty to go to Archie Bradley just yet. With the team still in a tailspin, it'd be no surprise to see Bolsinger jettisoned right away, with Trevor Cahill rejoining the rotation.
Apr 19 - 11:18 PM

Craig Kimbrel gave up two earned runs and recorded only two outs Saturday against the Mets.

It was Kimbrel's first outing in a week -- he was dealing with mild shoulder soreness -- and he had to be pulled with one out to go in the bottom of the ninth. Jordan Walden entered to pick up the one-out save. For what it's worth, Kimbrel told reporters after the game that his shoulder felt fine and that he wanted to stay in the game.
Apr 19 - 11:16 PM

Andre Ethier hit a three-run homer off Mike Bolsinger in the win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

Ethier is hitting just .214 in 56 at-bats, but he's driven in 13 runs anyway. That he's sitting against lefties makes him a mediocre play in mixed leagues right now, but he should have more value as the year goes on.
Apr 19 - 11:16 PM

Cody Ross was the lone useless member of Arizona's lineup on Saturday, going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts against the Diamondbacks.

Everyone else except Gerardo Parra had at least one hit, and Parra managed an RBI and a run scored. Ross shouldn't be starting against right-handers, and he certainly shouldn't be hitting ahead of Martin Prado and Mark Trumbo if he has to start against right-handers. He's 0-for-9 since coming off the DL.
