Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Friday that he may now be willing to use Blake Swihart at catcher.

It's a course reversal from what the skipper had said previously. Cora said that the team had been expecting Swihart to lose his roster spot when Dustin Pedroia came off the DL, but now that they know he's going to be around a while longer they want to use him more often. Swihart has made just four starts this season and they were all in the designated hitter spot.

Miguel Cabrera (hamstring) went through some running drills Friday.

Cabrera also took batting practice again. He's nearing a return to the Tigers' lineup and might not need a rehab assignment. The slugger has missed most of May with a strained right hamstring and has also dealt with some soreness in his hips and back.

Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) will make his Rays debut on Tuesday versus the Athletics.

It was either going to be Monday or Tuesday and now we have an official date. Eovaldi has successfully rehabbed from Tommy John surgery but was knocked around in his last rehab start. Fantasy owners should take a wait-and-see approach.

Mark Trumbo has been diagnosed with arthritis and chondromalacia in his right knee.

It's a fairly advanced case but something Trumbo had been playing through before it was aggravated on a slide earlier this week. He will have the knee drained and possibly receive a cortisone injection. Trumbo hopes to return to the Orioles' lineup in a few days.
May 25 - 4:20 PM

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that Daniel Murphy (knee) will begin a rehab assignment Saturday.

It qualifies as a nice surprise, as Murphy as of earlier this week hadn't been able to play in extended spring training games because he was sick. How many rehab games Murphy will require before being activated isn't known, but it surely will be a good number of them since he's been out all season following last Daniel Murphy last October's microfracture surgery on his right knee.
May 25 - 4:17 PM

Twins released 1B/OF Brock Stassi.

Stassi has lost his spot on Triple-A Rochester's roster after the Twins added Chris Carter. He was batting just .211/.316/.316.
May 25 - 4:03 PM

Yonder Alonso is not in the Indians' lineup Friday.

He'll take a seat with the Astros throwing southpaw Dallas Keuchel. Edwin Encarnacion is at first base and Melky Cabrera is in the designated hitter spot.
May 25 - 4:01 PM

Starling Marte (oblique) could be activated from the disabled list on Saturday.

Marte will go through a full workout on Friday and if he gets through that with no setbacks and feels fine Saturday he might be activated. Austin Meadows is a candidate to be optioned back to Triple-A Indianapolis even though he's played so well, as there wouldn't be an everyday role for him.
