Stephen Vogt is not in the Athletics starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Rays.

It's nothing more than a routine day of rest for Vogt, being an afternoon game after a night game. Josh Phegley is drawing the start behind the plate and batting sixth for the Athletics on Saturday.

Brett Lawrie is not in the Athletics starting lineup on Saturday.

Max Muncy is getting the call at the hot corner and batting fifth in the A's lineup against opposing right-hander Nathan Karns. Lawrie should be back in there for Sunday's series finale. The 25-year-old is hitting .279/.310/.364 with two homers and 16 RBI in 43 games.

Marlon Byrd is not in the Reds starting lineup on Saturday.

It's just a routine day off for Byrd against tough right-hander Corey Kluber. Brennan Boesch will start in his place in right field and bat eighth for the Reds on Saturday.

Derek Holland (shoulder) is expected to begin a throwing program late next week.

He'll undergo another MRI in three weeks before hopefully being cleared to resume mound work. Holland is working his way back from a strained subscapularis muscle in his left shoulder.

Bud Norris (illness) was absolutely destroyed in his minor league rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, allowing nine runs on 12 hits over 2 2/3 innings.

The veteran right-hander threw just 47 of his 72 pitches for strikes on the day. While he is eligible to return from the disabled list on May 26, the Orioles may choose to extend his rehab assignment after this debacle combined with his early-season struggles.

Dr. James Andrews confirmed Saturday that Jordan Schafer will not require surgery on his injured right knee.

It's good news for Schafer and for the Twins, who should have the speedy outfielder back in the fold at some point in June. In the meantime, Aaron Hicks will continue to see the bulk of playing time in center field.
May 23 - 11:24 AM

Matt Moore (elbow) allowed two runs on five hits over two innings in an extended spring training game on Saturday.

It was the first live game action for the left-hander since undergoing Tommy John surgery. He threw 25 of his 36 pitches for strikes in the outing. The next step should be to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week, with an eye on returning to the Rays rotation at some point in mid-June.
May 23 - 11:16 AM

Johnny Cueto's scheduled start on Sunday has been pushed back.

Raisel Iglesias will start in Cueto's place against the Indians on Sunday. Cueto has been bothered by general stiffness since his last start, but doesn't appear to be a major issue. It's unclear if he'll just be pushed back one day until Monday, or if he'll work later in the week.
