Bud Norris (illness) was absolutely destroyed in his minor league rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, allowing nine runs on 12 hits over 2 2/3 innings.
The veteran right-hander threw just 47 of his 72 pitches for strikes on the day. While he is eligible to return from the disabled list on May 26, the Orioles may choose to extend his rehab assignment after this debacle combined with his early-season struggles.
Dr. James Andrews confirmed Saturday that Jordan Schafer will not require surgery on his injured right knee.
It's good news for Schafer and for the Twins, who should have the speedy outfielder back in the fold at some point in June. In the meantime, Aaron Hicks will continue to see the bulk of playing time in center field.
Matt Moore (elbow) allowed two runs on five hits over two innings in an extended spring training game on Saturday.
It was the first live game action for the left-hander since undergoing Tommy John surgery. He threw 25 of his 36 pitches for strikes in the outing. The next step should be to begin a minor league rehab assignment this week, with an eye on returning to the Rays rotation at some point in mid-June.
Johnny Cueto's scheduled start on Sunday has been pushed back.
It's expected that Cueto will pitch on Monday instead, with Jason Marquis getting booted out of the rotation. Raisel Iglesias will start in Cueto's place against the Indians on Sunday.
Raisel Iglesias will start for the Reds on Sunday against the Indians in Cleveland.
While nothing has been confirmed, it sounds as though the Reds are shuffling their rotation and that Iglesias may remain in this spot long term. The 25-year-old owns a 3.94 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 11/6 K/BB ratio over his 16 innings with the Reds.
Brian McCann is not in the Yankees starting lineup on Saturday.
It's nothing more than a routine day of rest for the veteran backstop being a day game after a night game. John Ryan Murphy will get the start behind the plate and will hit eighth against Nick Martinez and the Rangers.
Leonys Martin is not in the Rangers starting lineup on Saturday.
It appears as though the Rangers will continue to ride the hot hand, with Delino DeShields again starting in center field and hitting leadoff for the Rangers against opposing southpaw C.C. Sabathia. Look for Martin to return to the lineup on Sunday.
Brad Miller is not in the Mariners starting lineup on Saturday against the Blue Jays.
He'll take a seat against opposing southpaw Mark Buehrle, with Chris Taylor starting at shortstop and hitting ninth for the M's. Look for Miller to be back in there for Sunday's series finale.
