Jharel Cotton (blister) has rejoined the Athletics and is slated to throw a bullpen session Friday.

Cotton made a rehab start Wednesday and is looks like it will be the only one he'll need before rejoining the A's rotation. He should make a start for them sometime next week.

Yonder Alonso is not in the Athletics' lineup Friday.

He's getting a breather with the Mets throwing lefty Steven Matz. Jed Lowrie is also sitting out, as the A's have Ryon Healy at first base and Adam Rosales at second.

Kevin Kiermaier (hip) said Friday that he expects to begin a rehab assignment "in the next week or so."

Kiermaier's recovery from a fractured hip is going very well, and he expects to be ready for activation from the disabled list when first eligible on August 8. The speedy outfielder is a good stash option in fantasy leagues where he was dropped.

Ryan Braun (calf, wrist) remained out of the Brewers' lineup Friday.

It's the third straight missed start for Braun, who is battling a nagging left calf issue in addition to a sore wrist. Hernan Perez is in left field. The Brewers also have Brett Phillips in center field over Keon Broxton.

Jaime Garcia is expected to make his scheduled start with the Braves on Friday against the Dodgers.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reported Thursday that the Braves had agreed to trade Garcia to the Twins, but at the very least the deal appears to be on life support, if not dead. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says that the Braves are "still talking to a number of clubs" about the left-hander.
Jul 21 - 3:36 PM

Steven Souza (hip) is not in the Rays' lineup Friday.

Souza avoided a serious hip injury on an awkward slide Wednesday, but he could still miss a few games. Shane Peterson is in right field Friday.
Jul 21 - 3:31 PM

Indians purchased the contract of LHP Tyler Olson from Triple-A Columbus.

Olson has posted a 3.32 ERA and 52/11 K/BB ratio over 40 2/3 relief innings for Columbus this season. He'll give the Tribe another lefty in the bullpen with Boone Logan (lat) going down.
