Tommy Medica is not in the Padres starting lineup on Friday, and is unlikely to be available the remainder of the weekend due to continued rightness in his right groin.
The Padres remain hopeful that he'll avoid a trip to the disabled list, so they'll play with a short bench for the weekend series against the Dodgers. Medica is hitting .230/.275/.410 with four homers and 13 RBI in his 122 at-bats on the season.
Yoenis Cespedes is not in the Athletics starting lineup on Friday against the Mariners.
A's manager Bob Melvin indicated that Cespedes looked as though he could use a day off, and a daunting task against Felix Hernandez isn't a bad night to grab a breather. Expect to see the slugger back in the lineup on Saturday.
Nolan Reimold was forced to leave Friday's game against the Rays with an apparent knee injury.
Reimold showed off his wheels, tagging up and hustling to second base on a Colby Rasmus fly out to right field, but after advancing on another fly ball from Juan Francisco, he was down for the count and holding his knee at third base. The team should provide an update on his status shortly, but a trip to the disabled list is very likely.
Jordan Zimmermann was removed from Friday's start against the Phillies with an apparent injury.
No word yet on the type or extent of the injury, but it's certainly worrisome that Zimmermann called for the trainer after delivering his last pitch. He had surrendered four runs on six hits over 3 1/3 innings before departing. Look for the Nationals to provide an update on his status shortly.
The Giants plan to activate Marco Scutaro (back) from the disabled list on Saturday.
There was a prevailing thought that he would rejoin the team on Friday, but it looks as though he needed an extra day. Expect him to rejoin the Giants starting lineup and make his season debut on Saturday.
Desmond Jennings was forced to leave Friday's game against the Blue Jays after fouling a ball off his left knee.
Kevin Kiermaier came on to replace him in center field. The team should provide an update on his status after the game, but he's expected to return to the lineup in a day or two.
Ian Kinsler has been named to the American League All-Star team as a replacement for the injured Victor Martinez.
Martinez has been nursing side and back injuries that have kept him out of action for the last week, so he'll sit out the Mid-Summer Classic as well. He will be well represented by his Tigers' teammate who's having a terrific year, slashing .305/.339/.477 with 11 homers, 49 RBI and nine stolen bases.
George Springer was scratched from the Astros starting lineup on Friday due to discomfort in his right knee.
Springer is being called day-to-day for the time being, but it wouldn't be terribly shocking to see the Astros play it safe and rest him the remainder of the weekend heading into the All-Star break.
