Blue Jays designated RHP Todd Redmond for assignment.

With Jays starter Matt Boyd failing to record an out on Thursday, the bullpen was incredibly taxed, forcing them to send Redmond out to get a fresh arm in the bullpen for the weekend. He should be back with the Blue Jays before long.

Blue Jays optioned LHP Matt Boyd to Triple-A Buffalo.

Boyd had an opportunity to secure a spot in the Blue Jays starting rotation, but his disastrous outing against the Red Sox on Thursday sealed his fate. He'll look to get back on track at Triple-A with the hope of earning another opportunity later in the season.
Jul 2 - 11:06 PM

David Ortiz clobbered a three-run home run in the first inning on Thursday, powering the Red Sox to a 12-6 victory over the visiting Blue Jays.

What's impressive to note is that the first inning blast came off Blue Jays' southpaw Matt Boyd. It was Big Papi's one hit in five at-bats on the night, and he also drew a walk. While he's hitting just .228/.313/.426 on the season, he now has eight homers and 18 RBI in his last 21 games.
Jul 2 - 11:05 PM

Wade Miley picked up his eighth victory of the season on Thursday despite allowing four runs on seven hits over his five innings of work.

The left-hander also issued an astounding seven walks in the contest while striking out only two. The Red Sox offense provided more than enough support for him though, and all he needed to do was hang around for five frames to collect the win. He'll bring a 4.53 ERA and 62/35 K/BB ratio into Wednesday's matchup against the Marlins.
Jul 2 - 10:58 PM

Kevin Pillar had a nice night at the plate in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox, going 4-for-5 with a double and a run scored.

Pillar has made a name for himself in recent years with his tremendous defensive prowess in center field, but he has developed into an integral part of the Blue Jays offense this year. With the four-hit attack, he's now hitting .285/.348/.409 on the season.
Jul 2 - 10:56 PM

Matt Boyd was absolutely obliterated in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox, surrendering seven runs on six hits and a walk without recording an out.

It was a far cry from his first start where he had flashes of dominance and struck out seven. He was tagged for a pair of home runs in the first-inning barrage, a three-run blast by David Ortiz and a solo shot by Hanley Ramirez. It's hard to imagine him sticking around to make his next start against the White Sox in Chicago on Tuesday, but even if he does he should be avoided for fantasy purposes.
Jul 2 - 10:53 PM

Adam Lind broke a 7-7 tie with an RBI single in the 11th inning on Thursday, propelling the Brewers to an 8-7 victory over the Phillies.

Lind finished the night 2-for-6 with a run scored and two RBI. Prior to his 11th inning heroics, he delivered an RBI single as part of a three-run uprising in the first inning against Phillies starter Chad Billingsley. Lind is enjoying a terrific season in the middle of the Brewers lineup, slashing .295/.365/.502 with 12 homers and 46 RBI.
Jul 2 - 10:51 PM

Matt Garza struggled in a no-decision against the Phillies on Thursday, giving up four runs on 10 hits over his six frames.

Garza struck out three on the night while issuing one free pass. He left with his team maintaining a 7-4 advantage, but the Brewers bullpen was unable to hold on and provide his fifth victory. Mired in a high disappointing season, he'll carry a 5.55 ERA and 68/33 K/BB ratio into Tuesday's matchup against the Braves.
