Rangers recalled LHP Alex Claudio from Triple-A Round Rock.
Claudio holds a solid 2.87 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 18 appearances this season at the major league level. The 23-year-old will function as a left-handed specialist.
Rangers optioned RHP Phil Klein to Triple-A Round Rock.
Klein owns a 5.82 ERA in 17 innings this season at the major league level. He'll get another shot at some point.
Rangers designated LHP Wandy Rodriguez for assignment.
Wandy was lit up for seven earned runs in just one inning of work Tuesday by the Yankees. The 36-year-old left-hander has shown promise at times this season, but it seems like he'll probably pass through waivers. He has a 4.90 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 86 1/3 innings.
An MRI taken Wednesday on Manny Banuelos' left elbow showed a posterior bone spur.
The hope is that he will be able to pitch again this season, but there are no guarantees. Banuelos was placed on the disabled list earlier this week.
Mike Trout (wrist) is out of the Angels' starting lineup again on Wednesday night.
Trout injured his wrist on a diving catch attempt Monday. An MRI taken Tuesday showed only inflammation and the star center fielder is fully expected to avoid the 15-day disabled list. David DeJesus is starting in center field Wednesday in his Angels debut.
Angels designated OF Efren Navarro for assignment.
Anaheim needed to clear out roster spots for the arrival of David Murphy and David DeJesus. Navarro, 29, is a .248/.306/.328 career hitter at the major league level.
Angels optioned OF Daniel Robertson to Triple-A Salt Lake.
Robertson hit .288/.307/.315 across 78 plate appearances in his month and a half in the major leagues. The 29-year-old will remain organizational outfield depth.
Mike Hessman tied a minor league record with his 432nd career homer Wednesday in a win for Triple-A Toledo.
The historic blast came in the third inning off Rochester right-hander Michael Bowden. Hessman also contributed a first-inning double. One more homer will put him ahead of Buzz Arlett for the most in minor league history. The 37-year-old leads the Mud Hens with 15 round-trippers in 307 at-bats this season. A career Quad-A player, Hessman hasn't made a big league appearance since 2010.
