Derek Dietrich is starting at first base for the Marlins on Thursday against the Cardinals.

Dee Gordon has returned from his 80-game PED suspension and is starting at second base and leading off. Dietrich has been pushed into a utility infield role.

Tyler White will join the Astros in Detroit on Friday, per Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle.

Doug Fister will be placed on paternity leave in a corresponding move. White got off to a sensational start this season in Houston but quickly regressed. He's probably not worth trying again in standard fantasy leagues.

Phillies activated OF Aaron Altherr from the 60-day disabled list.

Altherr is finally ready to join the Phils after missing the first four months of the 2016 season with a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist. The dynamic 25-year-old batted .341/.481/.463 with one homer and two stolen bases on his 13-game minor league rehab assignment and could carry deep mixed league value down the stretch.

Phillies placed OF Peter Bourjos on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder sprain.

That will obviously kill off any trade value he might have had. Bourjos suffered the injury on Tuesday night while robbing Ichiro Suzuki of a base hit and could be sidelined until September. Aaron Altherr has been activated in a corresponding roster move.

Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

Reds president Walt Jocketty said Thursday that he hasn't received a great offer for Jay Bruce.

"Clubs inquire about certain players, but they never want to trade you anything," Jocketty told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "So what’s the point? You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff." We'd expect those offers to improve over the next couple of days as the August 1 trade deadline approaches. Bruce, 29, boasts an .895 OPS with 25 home runs and 79 RBI in 95 games this season for Cincinnati. He carries a $13 million team option for 2017.

White Sox optioned RHP Anthony Ranaudo to Triple-A Charlotte.

Ranaudo allowed three runs on two hits (both homers) over 6 2/3 innings Wednesday night against the Cubs. He was actually working on a no-hitter before Kris Bryant went deep in the bottom of the sixth. Chris Sale has been reinstated from suspension in a corresponding 25-man roster move.

White Sox reinstated LHP Chris Sale from suspension.

Sale was handed a five-game suspension from the White Sox on Sunday after taking a knife to throwback jerseys that he did not want to wear. The incident led to the White Sox scratching him from his scheduled start Saturday against the Tigers, so he'll be working on nine days of rest in his return Thursday versus the Cubs.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Mets have expressed trade interest in relievers Daniel Hudson, Jim Johnson, and Joe Smith.

They're probably looking at several other options too. Hudson was setting himself up as a valuable trade chip for the Diamondbacks earlier this summer, but he has allowed 25 runs -- 20 earned -- over his last eight innings of work. Johnson and Smith both have season ERAs in the 4.00s. This is dumpster-diving.
