Jake Peavy struggled in a no-decision against the Orioles on Sunday, surrendering five runs on 10 hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Peavy walked five and struck out four on the evening. The O’s jumped on him early in this one, striking for three runs in the first inning including a solo homer off the bat of Nelson Cruz. The veteran right-hander will carry a 3.33 ERA, troublesome 1.48 WHIP and 25/14 K/BB ratio into his next outing against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Friday.

Adam Jones had a terrific night at the plate in Sunday’s loss to the Red Sox, going 4-for-5 with a double, RBI and a run scored.

Jones RBI single in the sixth inning increased the O’s advantage to 5-0 at the time, but unfortunately that would be the extent of their offense in the game. He’s off to a very strong start at the plate this season, slashing .313/.347/.448 with eight RBI.

Nelson Cruz belted his third home run of the 2014 season in Sunday’s loss to the Red Sox.

Cruz got the O’s on the board kicking off a three-run first inning off Jake Peavy. He finished the night 2-for-4 and owns an impressive .279/.362/.492 slash with 12 RBI in his first 16 games with the Orioles.

Ubaldo Jimenez pitched decently in a no-decision on Sunday, allowing three runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings against the Red Sox.

Jimenez also issued three free passes while punching out five. He cruised through the first five innings virtually unscathed, but a single, walk and three-run homer by Jonny Gomes in the fifth chased him from the game. Still looking for his first victory of the season, he’ll carry a 6.75 ERA and 1.88 WHIP into Friday’s matchup against the Royals in Baltimore.

Chris Snyder announced his retirement from professional baseball on Sunday.

Snyder had been playing at the Rangers Triple-A Affiliate in Round Rock, where he was 5-for-21 (.238) in his first seven games. The 33-year-old backstop wraps up his big league career hitting .224/.328/.382 with 77 homers and 298 RBI in 715 games across 10 seasons.

According to Max Wildstein of Outside Pitch MLB, the Yankees are leaning towards using David Phelps to fulfill the void left by Ivan Nova in the starting rotation.

Wildstein cites prior experience as one of the determining factors behind the decision. The 27-year-old right-hander posted a 3.81 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 79/35 K/BB ratio over 86 2/3 innings between the rotation and the bullpen in 2013. He remains an uninspiring fantasy option.

J.J. Hardy was removed from Sunday night's game against the Red Sox due to a strained right hamstring.

He grabbed at the back of the hamstring while running to first base. He's being considered day-to-day and shouldn't require a trip to the disabled list.
Apr 20 - 10:00 PM

Ryan Howard went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Sunday's 10-9 win over the Rockies.

The game was an absolute slugfest, and Howard provided plenty of punch. The first baseman hit a two-run homer in the third inning before legging out his first triple of the season in the sixth inning. He finished with three runs scored in the game. It was Howard's first four-hit game since July 30, 2011.
