Trea Turner launched a leadoff home run on Friday, powering the Nationals to a 5-1 victory over the Padres.

His leadoff shot off of Luis Perdomo gave the Nationals an early 1-0 advantage. Turner also doubled in the contest, finishing the night 2-for-4. After a very slow start to the season, Turner's bat has started to show signs of life over the past week. He's now hitting .244/.274/.429 with five homers, 23 RBI and 11 stolen bases on the season.

Bryce Harper blasted his 15th home run of the season on Friday as the Nationals dispatched of the Padres.

Harper had been in a bit of a funk at the plate over the past week, so his mammoth two-run shot into the third deck in Washington was a welcomed sight. He finished the day 1-for-3 plus a walk and is now hitting .340/.451/.685 with 15 long balls and 40 RBI on the season.

Michael Taylor belted a two-run homer on Friday as the Nationals topped the Padres in their series opener in Washington.

Taylor's two-run blast off of Luis Perdomo gave the Nationals a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning. It was his lone hit in four at-bats on the night and he also whiffed twice. Taylor is hitting .266/.302/.431 with three homers and 11 RBI in a part-time role with the Nats this season.

Koda Glover earned his fourth save of the season on Friday, striking out Hunter Renfroe with the bases loaded to end the game.

Glover was called upon to get the game's final out after Max Scherzer had loaded the bases in the ninth. The rookie right-hander was up to the task, striking out Renfroe on four pitches to preserve the victory. He is now entrenched as the Nats' closer and needs to be owned and started in all mixed leagues.

Max Scherzer was in dominant form in Friday's victory over the Padres, racking up a season-high 13 strikeouts over 8 2/3 innings of one-run ball.

The right-hander scattered three hits and a pair of walks in the contest. The only damage against him came on a solo homer off the bat of Ryan Schimpf in the fourth inning. He made a bit for his first complete game of the season, but he was lifted after hitting Ryan Schimpf to load the bases with two outs in the inning. Scherzer now boasts a 2.77 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 89/18 K/BB ratio across 68 1/3 innings on the season. He'll do battle against the Giants his next time out on Wednesday in San Francisco.

Ryan Schimpf clubbed a solo home run off of Max Scherzer in a losing effort against the Nationals on Friday.

His solo shot in the fourth inning would account for the Padres' only offense in the ballgame. He finished the night 1-for-3 plus a walk. The epitome of a three true outcome hitter, Schimpf is now hitting .167/.304/.442 with 12 homers and 22 RBI on the season.

Luis Perdomo logged a quality start in Friday's loss to the Nationals, surrendering three runs on six hits over his six innings of work.

The right-hander racked up six strikeouts on the night while walking two. All of the damage against him came via the long ball, with Trea Turner launching a solo homer to lead off the game and Michael Taylor adding a two-run shot in the fourth. Still winless on the season, Perdomo will carry a 5.61 ERA and 1.48 WHIP into Wednesday's matchup against the Cubs.

Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring) played six innings in his first minor league rehab game with High-A St. Lucie on Friday.

Cespedes went 0-for-2 plus a walk at the plate and scored a run. He'll stay on the rehab assignment through the weekend and could rejoin the Mets on Monday as long as he avoids any setbacks.
