Astros pitching prospect Brady Rodgers left his last start at Triple-A Fresno on April 19 with a right elbow injury.

"We're currently determining next steps," general manager Jeff Luhnow said on Thursday by phone. "We should know something by early next week." It sounds like a potentially serious injury, but obviously we'll know more in a few days. Rodgers, 26, struggled in his brief time with the big club last season but held a 2.86 ERA over 22 starts at Fresno.

Tom Murphy will undergo another scan on his fractured right wrist Friday.

Assuming the scan reveals good news, it seems likely that Murphy should be cleared to resume baseball activities. The Rockies' catcher had been hoping to return by early May, but obviously that's not going to happen. A return before the end of May would seem to be a possibility, although his timetable is certainly still up in the air.

Trevor Rosenthal wasn't available to pitch Tuesday due to some general arm soreness.

The Cardinals have avoided using Rosenthal on back-to-back days so far after he suffered a lat strain and subsequently aggravated the injury twice this spring. It wasn't the lat that kept him out Tuesday, but regardless the club is going to continue being careful with his workload. Rosenthal returned to pitch Thursday and was electric, striking out two in a scoreless frame. He has a 13/0 K/BB ratio over 6 1/3 relief innings this season.

Tyler Lyons could make a spot start for the Cardinals on Monday versus the Brewers.

The Cardinals will need a starter after a rainout Wednesday forced a doubleheader Thursday. There's more rain in the forecast this weekend in St. Louis, so another postponement could eliminate the need for Lyons on Monday. If that doesn't happen, though, Lyons is in line to face the Brewers. The lefty allowed one run over two innings Thursday in his first appearance since being activated from the disabled list. Lyons threw 73 pitches in his final rehab appearance, so he should be able to handle a decent-sized workload Monday.

Twins recalled LHP Buddy Boshers from Triple-A Rochester.

Boshers tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings in his only outing for the Twins this year. He'll likely be sent back down after Hector Santiago returns from the bereavement list.

Twins placed LHP Hector Santiago on the bereavement list.

Santiago lost his grandmother earlier this week. He'll be back in time for his next scheduled start.

Orioles activated OF Joey Rickard from the 10-day disabled list.

Rickard sprained his left middle finger shortly after Opening Day but played in a few rehab games and is ready to go. He'll get some starts versus lefties.
Apr 28 - 9:00 AM

Orioles optioned LHP Paul Fry to Triple-A Norfolk.

Joey Rickard (finger) is coming off the disabled list to take his roster spot. Fry was only up for a couple days and didn't make an appearance.
