Salvador Perez went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored to lead his club to an 8-2 thumping of the Tigers on Wednesday.

He cranked a two-run bomb off starter Daniel Norris in the fourth inning, then roped an RBI double to left in the ninth frame. Perez has been one of the best catchers in baseball this season, batting .291/.321/.536 with 16 home runs and 48 RBI.

Chase Anderson (oblique) will be placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Anderson suffered a left oblique strain while batting in the second inning of Wednesday's game against the Reds. There is no current timetable for his return, but this is expected to be a somewhat lengthy stay on the disabled list. Oblique injuries can be some of the trickiest to heal fully from.

Mike Moustakas went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored in a win over the Tigers on Wednesday.

He lifted a solo shot against starter Daniel Norris during his team's four-run outburst in the fourth inning. After missing the vast majority of last season, Moustakas has come back with a vengeance in 2017, slashing .271/.309/.542 with 20 homers and 47 RBI. He doesn't walk and he doesn't steal any bases but his power puts him near the top of the fantasy third base rankings.

Jake Petricka was ejected following the top of the sixth inning in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Hunter Wendelstedt was not making any friends in Chicago in this one. Manager Rick Renteria had already gotten tossed earlier in the sixth. Petricka followed suit at the close of the inning, but not before he had given up five runs -- three of those coming home on a guided missile of a long ball by Aaron Judge.

Ian Kennedy held the Tigers to two runs over seven innings and was credited with his second win of the season on Wednesday.

He gave up a pair of solo home runs and not much else. Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila took him deep but his teammates gave him plenty of run support to claim the victory. Kennedy gave up five hits and one walk while fanning five in the contest. He improves to 2-6 with a 4.72 ERA and fine 1.18 WHIP on the season.

Alex Avila continued his hot hitting by drilling a solo home run during Wednesday's loss to the Royals.

His blast off starter Ian Kennedy couldn't prevent his team from getting scorched tonight. It was his 11th homer of the season to go with a marvelous .321/.435/.597 slash line and 28 RBI. His .245 career batting average and .426 BABIP this season indicate severe regression is on the way soon.

Miguel Cabrera hit a solo home run on a 2-for-4 night against the Royals on Wednesday.

He took starter Ian Kennedy over the wall in the sixth frame. The veteran superstar has battled some nagging injuries all season but seems to be slowly rounding into form and is now batting .265/.360/.454 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI. Those are not the numbers his owners were hoping for when they drafted him. Don't be surprised if he kicks it up a notch or two in the second half.

Rays designated RHP Danny Farquhar for assignment.

Farquhar tossed an inning of scoreless relief in Wednesday's loss to the Pirates, but that was not enough to save him from the DFA. Prior to the appearance, the 30-year-old right-hander had been pitching to a 4.24 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 33/22 K/BB ratio in 34 innings. Farquhar has had major league success in the past -- 3.06 ERA in 35 1/3 frames last season -- and could see some interest on waivers.
