Matt Adams was pulled from Thursday's game against the Phillies with an apparent injury.

Adams got tangled up with Darin Ruf at first base as Ruf was trying to beat out an infield single. That's two big bodies colliding, and they were both walking gingerly after the play. There should be an update from the Cardinals' medical staff shortly.

Cubs recalled RHP Spencer Patton from Triple-A Iowa.

Patton will give the Cubs a fresh bullpen arm while Neil Ramirez mourns a death in his family. Patton had struck out 17 batters over 10 scoreless innings this season at Iowa. He could stick around after Ramirez returns.

Cubs placed RHP Neil Ramirez on the bereavement list.

Ramirez has been excused from the club following a death in his family. He'll be out 3-7 days.
May 5 - 2:48 PM

Brewers claimed LHP Michael Kirkman off waivers from the Padres.

Kirkman was designated for assignment by San Diego earlier this week to clear a roster spot for Alex Dickerson. Kirkman had allowed four runs on six hits in 1 1/3 innings of work for the Padres and he owns a 5.25 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 108 career major league frames. He'll join the Brewers this weekend in Cincinnati and will likely pitch in low-leverage situations.
May 5 - 1:52 PM

Billy Hamilton (thumb) is back in the Reds' starting lineup Thursday against the Brewers.

Hamilton has been in and out of the Reds' lineup over the last couple of weeks because of a jammed left thumb. The 25-year-old center fielder was able to serve as a late-inning defensive replacement on Wednesday night and he will bat second Thursday versus Brewers right-hander Chase Anderson.
May 5 - 1:12 PM

Matt Holliday will get a day off Thursday.

Just a routine day of maintenance for the veteran outfielder. Brandon Moss will start in left and bat third in the matinee versus Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff.
May 5 - 11:44 AM

Randal Grichuk is getting the day off Thursday.

Jeremy Hazelbaker will start in center field and hit sixth versus Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff. Grichuk came into the 2016 season with lofty expectations, but he's batting just .186/.268/.384 in 26 games.
May 5 - 11:17 AM

Aledmys Diaz is out of the Cardinals' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Phillies.

Diaz finally got to hit higher than seventh on Wednesday night, serving as the Cardinals' leadoff man in a 5-4 victory, but he'll take a day of rest Thursday versus Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff. Ruben Tejada is playing shortstop and batting eighth.
