Craig Kimbrel (knee) could begin a minor league rehab assignment as soon as Saturday.
Kimbrel, who is coming back from left knee surgery, threw around 20 pitches off the mound on Monday and is scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Wednesday. If all goes well, he could rejoin the Red Sox as soon as next Monday in Seattle. Brad Ziegler will continue to fill in at closer for now.
Ubaldo Jimenez is expected to rejoin the Orioles on Tuesday.
Jimenez has been away on paternity leave since Saturday. Despite a lengthy absence, he's considered an option to start Thursday against the Twins.
Daniel Norris (oblique) will make another minor league rehab start with Double-A Erie.
It's not a big surprise, as Norris gave up five runs on five hits and three walks over 4 2/3 innings on Saturday with Triple-A Toledo. He'll hope for better results in his next rehab outing. The southpaw has been out since early July with an oblique injury.
Andres Blanco will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a fractured left index finger.
Blanco suffered the injury on a slide into third base on Sunday. Phillies manager Pete Mackanin is optimistic that he could be back in six weeks.
Diamondbacks purchased the contract of RHP Braden Shipley from Triple-A Reno.
Shipley will make his major league debut Monday against the Brewers. The 25-year-old posted a 3.70 ERA and 77/22 K/BB ratio in 119 1/3 innings over 19 starts this season in Triple-A. It's unclear if he'll keep a rotation spot once Zack Greinke (oblique) is ready to return.
Diamondbacks optioned RHP Silvino Bracho to Triple-A Reno.
The move clears the way for Braden Shipley on the active roster. Bracho has a 6.75 ERA and 11/7 K/BB ratio over 14 2/3 innings in the majors this season. He should be back up again later this summer.
Padres recalled LHP Keith Hessler from Triple-A El Paso.
Hessler will be available out of the Padres' bullpen on Monday night in Toronto. The left-hander has allowed 10 runs in six innings this year in the major leagues.
Padres optioned RHP Kevin Quackenbush to Triple-A El Paso.
Keith Hessler will replace him in the San Diego bullpen on Monday night. Quackenbush owns a 3.89 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and 28/15 K/BB ratio in 41 2/3 innings this season.
