Tre Mason - RB - Rams

Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer said all of his running backs will "have roles for us," and he'll continue to treat it as a week-to-week situation.

"I think that’s kind of good for us," Schottenheimer said. "For a defense not to know who they’ve got to prepare for. To know that at any moment it might be a different guy out there." Schottenheimer isn't fooling anyone. Anybody with working eyeballs can see Tre Mason is the Rams' most talented runner. If the Rams want to put the ball in Zac Stacy or Benny Cunningham's hands, they're playing to the defense's advantage. We're not -- and more importantly, defensive coordinators aren't -- buying Schottenheimer's mind trick. Mason's the guy.

Calvin Johnson (ankle) remained limited at Friday's practice.

That's three limited sessions for Megatron this week. It's a gigantic step in the right direction, but we're still likely looking at a game-time decision. The good news is the Lions and Falcons kick off at 9:30 AM ET in London on Sunday, so we'll have the inactive list fairly early. Johnson's been cutting in practice this week.

Eric Ebron (hamstring) remained sidelined at practice Friday.

Coach Jim Caldwell said there's a "very slim chance" Ebron or Joseph Fauria (ankle) plays against the Falcons. And Brandon Pettigrew (foot) is a "big question mark." Kellen Davis and Jordan Thompson are next up on the depth chart.

Brandon Pettigrew (foot) remained sidelined at Lions practice Friday.

Coach Jim Caldwell called Pettigrew "a big question mark" for Sunday's Week 8 game against the Falcons. The Lions could be forced to turn to Jordan Thompson and Kellen Davis at tight end with Eric Ebron and Joseph Fauria also hurt.

Reggie Bush (ankle) did not practice again Friday, but said he'll play Week 8 against the Falcons.

Bush got in a limited practice Wednesday before sitting out Thursday and Friday. If he does suit up, Bush can't be trusted even in a phenomenal matchup versus Atlanta's sieve-like run defense. Joique Bell should get the bulk of the work as a runner, making him a locked-in RB2. The Lions and Falcons kick off at 9:30 AM ET.

Ravens LT Eugene Monroe (knee) expects to return to the lineup Week 8 against the Bengals.

UDFA James Hurst has been filling in on Joe Flacco's blind side the past four games as Monroe recovers from a knee scope. The Ravens badly need Monroe. Hurst has been destroyed in pass protection and as a run blocker, giving up three sacks against the Colts in Week 5 and taking three holding penalties last Sunday against the Falcons. The Ravens also expect LG Kelechi Osemele back.

Free agent QB Kevin Kolb has retired from the NFL.

Kolb, 30, recounts four known concussions in the NFL, with the final one coming last preseason on his 29th birthday. It ended his career. Kolb says the after-effects of the concussions still haunt him today. He deals with constant ringing in his ears that he compares to "someone shooting a shotgun right next to my ear, every second of every day," sensitivity to light, and short-term memory loss. The former second-round pick of the Eagles had a career 9-12 record.

Juwan Thompson rushed seven times for 24 yards and two touchdowns in Denver's Week 8 win over the Chargers.

Thompson vultured workhorse Ronnie Hillman for two- and one-yard scores in the second half. The touchdowns were his second and third of the season. Thompson has been running well as a situational hammer, but will likely lose that role upon Montee Ball's (groin) return.
