Ryan Howard went 3-for-3 and hit his eighth homer in the Phillies' 5-4 victory over the Nationals on Monday.

Howard didn't get to play hero in the ninth, though; manager Charlie Manuel took him out for a pinch-runner in the eighth. With two runners on, Steve Lerud went on to strike out in Howard's place in the ninth. However, Domonic Brown followed that with a game-winning single. Howard has seven hits in his last three games, and he's batting .346 in 52 at-bats for the month. Still, it's power that everyone wants to see from him, and tonight's homer was his first since May 29 and just his second since May 7.

John Lannan yielded two runs in five innings versus the Nationals in his return to the Phillies rotation Monday.

That's the prototypical Lannan start. He was in line for the victory when he left tonight, but Jonathan Papelbon blew the save in the ninth. Of course, that's part of Lannan's problem; that he doesn't pitch more than five or six innings gives his bullpen more opportunities to blow leads.
Jun 17 - 11:00 PM

Jonathan Papelbon took his first blown save of the year when he gave up a solo homer to the Nationals' Chad Tracy on Monday.

Papelbon was a perfect 13-for-13 this season before missing inside to Tracy tonight. It wasn't much more than a 340-foot flyball, but it was well placed down the line at Citizens Bank. Papelbon ended up getting the win anyway after the Phillies scored in the bottom of the ninth.

Dan Haren gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Phillies.

Haren struck out 10 Phillies last time he faced them on May 25. Tonight, he managed just three strikeouts, which is closer to his norm for the season. He's giving up too many homers, he's not working deep into games and he's not getting much support from the offense. Until something there changes, he'll remains pretty much worthless in fantasy leagues.

Indians optioned RHP Matt Langwell to Triple-A Columbus.

Langwell posted a 2.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over four appearances, but the Indians are expected to add a hitter prior to Tuesday's game with Nick Swisher (shoulder) banged up. Lonnie Chisenhall is a likely choice.
Jun 17 - 10:51 PM

After the Royals scored a run on a wild pitch in the top of the frame, Greg Holland pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth for the save as the Royals edged the Indians 2-1 on Monday.

The Royals only play 2-1 or 3-2 games, so Holland is racking up the save chances of late. He has eight saves and a win in the last 19 days after going the previous four weeks without any saves.
Jun 17 - 10:48 PM

Orioles optioned RHP Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk.

Arrieta gets the boot after getting lit up for five runs on 10 hits and a walk over 4 2/3 innings against the Tigers Monday. He'll be replaced on the roster by Zach Britton, who will be called up to start Tuesday.
Jun 17 - 10:45 PM

Back from his seven-game suspension, Carlos Carrasco lasted 7 1/3 innings and allowed just one run Monday against the Royals.

Sure, it was against Kansas City, but it's still a nice step forward for a guy who had a 15.26 ERA in two major league starts this year. It remains to be seen how much longer he'll be a part of the Cleveland rotation, so it's probably not worth picking him up in AL-only leagues at the moment.
