Chase Anderson struggled early in a loss against the Rockies, giving up five runs in 5 1/3 innings on Monday.

Justin Morneau slugged a three-run home run in the first inning to put Anderson behind the eight-ball early. Overall, Anderson surrendered eight hits with two walks while striking out four. It was Anderson's worst start of the four he's made to this point. He'll bring a 4.24 ERA and a 20/6 K/BB ratio over 23 1/3 innings into a road start against the Dodgers next.

Tyler Matzek improved to 2-0 after limiting the Diamondbacks to two runs over five innings on Monday.

Matzek had to leave after five frames due to a left hamstring cramp. Over his five innings, he worked around five hits and three walks, yielding the only two runs in his fifth and final inning. He struck out three on the evening. The lefty hasn't pitched deep into games, but sports a 2.70 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, and a 13/13 K/BB ratio in 20 innings. If Matzek's hamstring problem isn't serious, he'll match up with the Padres at Petco Park next.

Corey Dickerson went 3-for-5 with an RBI single to help the Rockies eke out a win over the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Dickerson singled in a run in the second inning to push the Rockies' lead to 4-0 at the time. It's the 25-year-old's fourth multi-hit game out of his last five games. Overall, he's batting .338/.384/.632 with five home runs and 15 RBI. Dickerson is battling plantar fasciitis but it hasn't done much to hamper his offense thus far.
Apr 28 - 1:26 AM

Justin Morneau went 2-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run to help the Rockies edge the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Morneau greeted D'Backs starter Chase Anderson rudely with a three-run jack in the first inning. It's only the first baseman's second blast of the season. The defending NL batting champ had been off to a cold start, but three consecutive multi-hit games bumped his batting line up to .297/.338/.438.
Apr 28 - 1:23 AM

Brett Anderson's shaky fifth inning ended his evening, resulting in a no-decision as the Dodgers beat the Giants on Monday.

Anderson had shut the Giants out over his first four frames, but the Giants hit him around for three runs in the fifth. After Anderson got two quick ground outs, the Giants strung together a walk, two singles, and a double to reduce a four-run deficit to a one-run deficit. Over 4 2/3 innings, Anderson gave up five hits, walked two, and struck out three. The lefty has pitched into the sixth inning just once in four starts and has a 5.49 ERA. Anderson toes the slab against the Diamondbacks at home in his next outing.
Apr 28 - 1:21 AM

Tim Lincecum got the loss on Monday versus the Dodgers, serving up four runs in four innings of work.

The Dodgers scored all four runs in the third inning, but Lincecum just wasn't sharp in general. He gave up eight hits and three walks while striking out only two. The right-hander still sports a productive 3.27 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP and a 16/10 K/BB ratio in 22 innings. Lincecum will look for better results in his next start at home against the Angels.
Apr 28 - 1:18 AM

Norichika Aoki went 2-for-5 with a stolen base as the Giants fell to the Dodgers on Monday.

Aoki reached on a fielder's choice and stole second base in the third inning, but was stranded. He singled and scored the first of the Giants' three runs in the fifth. Aoki hadn't registered a hit since April 22, but still boasts an impressive -- though power-absent -- .309/.391/.383 batting line with six stolen bases on the season.
Apr 28 - 1:16 AM

Jed Lowrie exited Monday's game against the Padres with a right thumb injury.

The injury occurred on a slide into home plate. It's not clear at this point how serious the ailment is, but the Astros should have more on Lowrie's status after the game. It's awful timing, as the red-hot Lowrie went 2-for-3 with a homer Monday to push his season batting line to .300/.432/.567.
