Keyvius Sampson will start for the Reds on Sunday against the Pirates.

It will be the first major league start for the 24-year-old who is auditioning for one of the open spots in the Reds rotation created from the Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake trades. He posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 74/46 K/BB ratio over 82 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season.

C.J. Wilson will undergo surgery to repair a left elbow impingement and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2015 season.

Wilson alerted the Angels to the news prior to the trade deadline. He has been pitching with bone spurs in his elbow since April, but his range of motion has diminished recently which necessitated the surgery. He should be fully healthy and ready to go for the start of the 2015 season.

Marlins recalled LHP Chris Reed from Triple-A New Orleans.

While the southpaw has struggled in the minor leagues this season, he has good stuff and could excel as a situational left-hander. He will work in middle relief.
Aug 1 - 2:28 PM

Marlins recalled LHP Adam Conley from Triple-A New Orleans.

The southpaw is a candidate to start on Tuesday in the rotation spot vacated by Dan Haren. He has made one start for the Fish this season, earning a victory in a spot start against the Reds.
Aug 1 - 2:24 PM

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that C.J. Wilson has been diagnosed with a left elbow impingement.

The injury is more serious than the mild inflammation that landed the southpaw on the disabled list. An MRI earlier in the year revealed bone spurs in his elbow. Wilson indicated that he will need to undergo surgery to repair, though it's unclear if that procedure will happen immediately or after the season. There is no clear timetable for his return from the disabled list at the moment.
Aug 1 - 1:42 PM

Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that the Rockies are expected to recall Kyle Parker from Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday.

He'll take the place of the injured Corey Dickerson. The 25-year-old is hitting .280/.326/.431 with nine homers and 58 RBI in 93 games at Triple-A, though he isn't likely to see enough playing time to be fantasy relevant outside of NL-only formats.
Aug 1 - 1:39 PM

Kole Calhoun is not in the Angels starting lineup for Saturday afternoon's contest against the Dodgers.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia is utilizing his improved bench to give Calhoun a breather against dominant left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Shane Victorino will start in right field while David DeJesus gets the call in left.
Aug 1 - 1:34 PM

Chris Iannetta is not in the Angels starting lineup on Saturday.

It's just a routine day of rest for the veteran backstop against tough opposing southpaw Clayton Kershaw. Carlos Perez will start behind the dish for the Halos and bat sixth on Saturday.
