Rangers prospect RHP Luke Jackson fired six scoreless innings Tuesday for Double-A Frisco, allowing three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters.

Jackson, 22, was rocked for seven runs in 3 1/3 innings his last time out, so it was good to see him get back on track Tuesday. Overall, the right-hander owns a 4.40 ERA and 12/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 14 1/3 innings this season. Jackson is likely to contribute in the major leagues later this season if all goes as planned with his development.

Jose Tabata left Wednesday's game against the Reds after colliding with the

Tabata made a nice running catch, but he paid the price. He looked woozy after getting up and the Pirates trainer was checking his head/jaw area. It's certainly possible that he could have a concussion, but we likely won't know more until later Wednesday or Thursday. Starling Marte, who had been given a day off, took Tabata's spot in left field.

Giants prospect RHP Kendry Flores dominated on Tuesday, allowing three hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in six shutout innings for High-A San Jose.

Flores, 22, was signed by the Giants in 2009 and spent four years in the system before making his full-season debut last year. Making 22 starts for Low-A Augusta, Flores posted a 2.73 ERA and stellar 137/17 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 141.2 innings. Pitching in the hitter-friendly California League this year, the right-hander owns a 3.00 ERA and 18/3 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 18 innings. Flores is still a few years away from reaching the major leagues, but his excellent command, age and spot on the Giants' 40-man roster should help him begin to move up the ladder this season.

Braves prospect RHP Cody Martin turned in his best start of the season Tuesday, allowing two hits and a walk with nine strikeouts in 5 2/3 scoreless innings for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Martin, a seventh-round draft pick in 2011 out of Gonzaga, split the 2013 season between Double- and Triple-A, posting a 3.16 ERA and 137/58 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 136 2/3 innings. The 24-year-old lacks a high ceiling despite a 10.1 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9 in 290 career minor league innings, but he's still likely to be called on this season should the Braves need another starter.
Apr 16 - 1:36 PM

Astros prospect RHP Mike Foltynewicz turned in his best start of the season on Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits in five innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The 22-year-old made it through 3 1/3 innings in the outing for the first time this year and struck out a season-high six batters. In his three previous starts, Foltynewicz had allowed nine earned runs on 11 hits in seven innings with a 5/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The right-hander has power stuff, with a fastball that routinely touches triple digits, but his control remains a work in progress and could ultimately determine his future role in the major leagues. Foltynewicz's Tuesday start was a step in the right direction, and he's likely to debut for the Astros (in some capacity) later this season.
Apr 16 - 1:27 PM

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Matsuzaka posted a 2.25 ERA with 12 strikeouts over his first 12 innings at Triple-A. The plan for now is to use him in long relief, but he could get a start if Jenrry Mejia (blister) isn't ready to go the next time out.
Apr 16 - 1:21 PM

Mets sent LHP John Lannan outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lannan's move to the bullpen didn't go well, as he posted a 15.75 ERA over five relief appearances. He has the option to elect free agency rather than accept the minor league assignment. The Mets will try Daisuke Matsuzaka as a long reliever instead.
Apr 16 - 1:19 PM

Marlins prospect LHP Andrew Heaney was outstanding on Tuesday, allowing just a hit and walk while striking out five in six scoreless innings for Double-A Jacksonville.

After giving up three runs on 10 hits in his season debut, Heaney, 22, has been lights out in his last two starts, allowing five total hits in 12 shutout frames with a 13/2 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Given Heaney's success in Double-A dating back to last season, it might not be long until he receives a promotion to the major leagues.
