Jonathan Schoop hit his 22nd home run of the season on Wednesday afternoon against the Rays.

It was a solo shot in the top of the fourth inning off Rays starter Alex Cobb, who otherwise dominated the Orioles' offense. Schoop now has seven home runs and 23 RBI in 22 games this month.

Alex Cobb fired seven innings of one-run ball Wednesday in the Rays' 5-1 victory over the Orioles.

Cobb allowed just one walk and four hits while racking up six strikeouts in the easy-looking 94-pitch effort. The one run he gave up came on a solo homer by Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop in the top of the fourth inning. Cobb has run into a couple of rough patches this season, but he owns a cool 3.46 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 90/34 K/BB ratio in 138 innings overall and he's been especially sharp over his last four outings. A road test against the first-place Astros is up next.

Phillies activated OF Aaron Altherr from the 10-day disabled list.

Altherr missed exactly 10 days with a strained right hamstring. The 26-year-old outfielder returns to an impressive .288/.359/.539 batting line with 14 home runs, 44 RBI, five stolen bases, and 40 runs scored in 79 games.

Phillies placed OF Daniel Nava on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to July 23, with a hamstring strain.

That essentially rules out the possibility that he will be traded ahead of the July 31 non-wavier deadline. Nava, an impending free agent, has posted a surprising .303/.400/.408 batting line across 180 plate appearances this season for Philadelphia.

Johnny Cueto (blisters) threw a bullpen session Wednesday without issue.

Cueto could return to the Giants' starting rotation on Monday night in Oakland, if he's not traded before then. The veteran right-hander has been sidelined since July 15 with multiple blisters on his pitching hand.

Mariners manager Scott Servais said he expects Jarrod Dyson (toe) to return to the lineup Friday.

Dyson has been out since Saturday with a hyperextended toe. Seattle will face three right-handers this weekend in a three-game series against the Mets, so the left-handed-hitting Dyson can try to make up for lost time.

Cardinals recalled RHP Mike Mayers from Triple-A Memphis.

Mayers will probably head back down when the Cardinals call up a starter to fill Adam Wainwright's rotation spot. The 25-year-old right-hander has allowed three runs -- two earned -- in four innings this season at the MLB level.
Jul 26 - 2:14 PM

Braves recalled RHP Aaron Blair from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Blair will start for Atlanta on Wednesday afternoon against the Diamondbacks, filling the rotation spot left vacant by the recent Jaime Garcia trade. The 25-year-old former top prospect had posted an uninspiring 4.86 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, and 68/40 K/BB ratio through 87 innings this season at Triple-A.
