MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan writes that Delino DeShields could be the Rangers' everyday left fielder and leadoff man.

DeShields has batted .302/.448/.321 with 12 steals this spring, which might have been enough to push Jurickson Profar back into a utility role and Carlos Gomez down in the order. "I tell guys, make me put you in the lineup," manager Jeff Banister said. "Let your game put you in the lineup. Delino has made us do that. How it plays on Opening Day or the day after that … just continue to play the game." DeShields entered 2016 as the Opening Day center fielder and leadoff man, but he lost those jobs quickly and ultimately hit .209/.275/.313. However, the 24-year-old had a good rookie season and could make a dent in fantasy leagues with his on-base skills and running ability.

Giancarlo Stanton homered off Dallas Keuchel and walked Tuesday against the Astros.

It doesn't quite seem like Stanton has found his swing yet, but he hasn't been all that bad, either. He is 6-for-26 with a couple of homers in Marlins camp. He was 5-for-22 with one homer for Team USA in the WBC. Fortunately, he hasn't complained of any physical issues, and there's nothing to suggest he'll need frequent off days during the regular season.

Craig Gentry had another nice game Tuesday, collecting a double, two walks and two steals in the Orioles' 5-4 win over the Braves.

Gentry is hitting .333 with a .992 OPS in 51 at-bats, which is going to have to be good enough to get him a spot on the Orioles' roster. If they surprise and choose not to carry him, he'll be of interest to several teams.

Jaime Garcia turned in six innings of three-run ball Tuesday against the Orioles.

Garcia struck out six in the outing against mostly backups and minor leaguers. He ends the spring with a nice 3.20 ERA and, more importantly, no health red flags at all. He's a fringy mixed-league starter, but he'll at least be a streaming option.
Mar 28 - 5:02 PM

Freddie Freeman went 2-for-2 on Tuesday, raising his spring average to .524.

Freeman was one of the NL's very best hitters last year, and he is 22-for-42 with just five strikeouts and four walks this spring. With any sort of boost from the Braves' new ballpark, he should be a top-20 overall player this season.

Reds re-assigned OFs Desmond Jennings and Sebastian Elizalde to minor league camp.

Jennings has an opt-out clause in his contract, so he figures to exercise it rather than accept a minor league assignment. He batted just .195 this spring and lost out on a bench spot to Patrick Kivlehan.

Matt Adams went 3-for-4 and hit a three-run homer Tuesday as the Cardinals and Mets played to a 3-3 tie.

Even though he's fanned 19 times in 47 at-bats, Adams has hit .340 with five homers this spring. The Cardinals seem to think he'll be usable in left field, but it's hard to imagine him outhitting Randall Grichuk enough to make up for what should be a pretty huge difference defensively. Grichuk projects as the better hitter anyway; he has a .797 to .770 edge when it comes to their career OPSs.

Tyler Thornburg has been diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement and will be shut down from throwing for 10 days.

He'll be re-evaluated after that, but it's an injury that figures to keep Thornburg on the shelf for a while even if all goes well from here on out. Acquired via trade from the Brewers over the winter, Thornburg had been in line to be the club's Opening Day setup man. However, he was limited to just two appearances this spring due to a "dead arm" and now the shoulder issue.
