Orioles manager Buck Showalter would not rule out Zach Britton (ankle) for a possible appearance in Wednesday's contest with the Yankees.

Showalter indicated that he wants more information on Britton's current health before he makes an informed decision as to the closer's availability. The 28-year-old left-hander sprained his left ankle over the weekend while attempting to field a bunt. Until Britton returns to action (which should be soon), Darren O'Day should continue to see save opportunities.

Avisail Garcia (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest with the Red Sox.

Garcia is dealing with a tweaked hamstring suffered on Friday against the Orioles. After several days of rest, he had been hoping for a return to the lineup on Wednesday. The White Sox play the Red Sox again on Thursday and Garcia could conceivably crack the lineup for that one if the team feels comfortable with his health.
May 4 - 4:44 PM

Brock Holt is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest with the White Sox.

Holt will sit against opposing southpaw starter Carlos Rodon. In his place, Chris Young earns a start in left field. Young is hitting sixth. This is nothing new for Holt. He has seen just nine at-bats all season against left-handed pitchers.
May 4 - 4:35 PM

Aaron Hicks is in the lineup and playing right field for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Hicks is hitting seventh, while Carlos Beltran earns himself a half-day in the DH slot. With Alex Rodriguez hitting the disabled list due to a bum hamstring, it would not be a surprise if Hicks sees additional playing time in the immediate future. Manager Joe Girardi figures to be looking for any spark that could help fill that offensive void for the slumbering Yankees.
May 4 - 4:28 PM

Yadier Molina is starting at first base for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

This will be just the third career start Molina has ever made at first base. He is batting fifth for the Cardinals, with Brandon Moss and Matt Adams both sitting out against Phillies left-hander Adam Morgan. Eric Fryer takes the start at catcher in Molina's place and is hitting eighth.
May 4 - 4:22 PM

Jon Lester tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings Wednesday in the Cubs' 6-2 victory over the Pirates.

Lester ran into a couple of jams, yielding eight total hits and walking two, but he did a fine job of damage control as usual on the way to five strikeouts. The left-hander is now 3-1 with a 1.58 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 38/9 K/BB ratio in 40 innings this season for the first-place Cubs. He will take on the punchless Padres at home next time out.
May 4 - 4:16 PM

Juan Nicasio allowed four runs -- one earned -- over 4 1/3 innings Wednesday in a loss to the Cubs.

The three unearned runs came in the third inning, when Andrew McCutchen couldn't corral a hot shot to center field by Anthony Rizzo and Ben Zobrist followed with a three-run shot. It's possible that error on McCutchen gets changed to a hit for Rizzo. Nicasio, a popular fantasy sleeper this spring, stands 3-3 with a 3.16 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 32/15 K/BB ratio over 31 1/3 innings with the Bucs. He gave up eight hits and walked three on Wednesday. A road start against the Reds is next.
May 4 - 4:12 PM

Evan Gattis is not in the lineup for Wednesday's showdown with the Twins.

No injury to report here, just a regular day off for Gattis. Preston Tucker slides into the slugger's DH slot. Tucker is hitting sixth.
