Carlos Gonzalez homered twice in a 4-for-5 effort, but the Rockies lost to the Cubs on Monday.

Gonzalez started the scoring when he drilled a two-run home run to left-center off of Kyle Hendricks in the third inning. He helped the Rockies rally for a four-run ninth inning, drilling a go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth inning against Rafael Soriano. It wasn't a lead they would hold, however. Gonzalez has been on fire in July, racking up 10 multi-hit performances in 19 games. He has 20 home runs on the season with 51 RBI and a .278/.332/.520 triple-slash line.

Chris Capuano will start on Tuesday against the Rangers.

It will presumably just be a spot start. Capuano holds a 5.64 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over 15 appearances -- three starts -- this season and allowed four runs over an inning of work in his last game.
Jul 27 - 11:39 PM

Ivan Nova got the win after holding the Rangers to two runs in five innings, helping the Yankees to a 6-2 victory on Monday.

Both runs scored in the second inning on an RBI double to Elvis Andrus and an RBI single to Leonys Martin. Nova allowed five hits and two walks overall while striking out three. The right-hander has been solid in six starts since making his season debut on June 24, brandishing a 3.38 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and an 18/12 K/BB ratio over 34 2/3 innings. Nova will take the mound in Chicago against the White Sox over the weekend.

Matt Harrison surrendered six runs in six innings, taking the loss on Monday versus the Yankees.

Didi Gregorius hit a two-run home run off of him in the third inning and Alex Rodriguez drilled a solo shot in the sixth. He then allowed a walk, a double, and a two-run single before exiting with no outs in the seventh. Overall, Harrison yielded six hits and a pair of walks while striking out two. He's allowed six runs in two of three starts since coming off of the disabled list. He'll try to rebound in his next start at home against the Giants.
Jul 27 - 11:34 PM

Didi Gregorius went 3-for-4 with a two-run single and a two-run home run as the Yankees downed the Rangers on Monday.

Gregorius tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning when he drilled a two-run home run off of Matt Harrison. He added insurance in the seventh inning with a two-run single. It's only the fifth multi-RBI game of the season for the shortstop, who has left Yankees fans pining for Derek Jeter as he's hitting .248/.297/.340 with five home runs and 25 RBI.
Jul 27 - 11:31 PM

Alex Rodriguez, celebrating his 40th birthday, went 1-for-5 with a solo home run as the Yankees topped the Rangers on Monday.

It's the sixth home run he's hit on his birthday, strangely enough. The sixth-inning blast extended the Yankees' lead to 4-2. Rodriguez has gone yard nine times in his last 15 games, including four in his last two. He has 24 dingers overall this season with 59 RBI and a .276/.373/.543 in an outstanding return after missing all of the 2014 season due to a suspension.
Jul 27 - 11:28 PM

David Robertson allowed a run but still got his 22nd save of the season, finishing out Monday's 10-8 win against the Red Sox.

It seemed like an easy ninth for the right-hander after getting two quick ground outs. But he walked Daniel Nava, who advanced to second base on fielder's indifference, before giving up an RBI single to Pablo Sandoval. That brought the winning run to the plate, and he walked Alejandro De Aza. Thankfully for him, he got Ryan Hanigan to ground out to end the threat. Robertson has allowed runs in back-to-back appearances but is now 22-for-27 in save situations this year with a 2.63 ERA and a 58/10 K/BB ratio in 41 innings.
Jul 27 - 11:25 PM

Joe Kelly took a no-decision, allowing five runs (four earned) in 3 1/3 innings as the Red Sox fell to the White Sox on Monday.

The White Sox jumped on Kelly immediately for four runs in the first inning and tacked on another in the third. The right-hander allowed seven hits and hit a batter while walking none and striking out two. 2015 just hasn't been his year, as he stands with a 5.94 ERA, a 1.51 WHIP, and a 68/32 K/BB ratio over 83 1/3 innings. Kelly will look for something positive to come out of this weekend's home start versus the Rays.
