J.J. Hardy said that his shoulder was feeling "a lot better" than on Monday.

Hardy underwent an MRA on the left shoulder on Monday, which revealed a muscle strain. He's being shut down from baseball activities for the next ten days. While it's feeling better, the Orioles will wait for a reduction in the swelling before they reevaluate the shortstop. In the meantime, Everth Cabrera should fill in as starter. In deeper AL-only leagues, Cabrera's speed could make him a short-term asset.

Pirates reassigned RHP Blake Wood to minor league camp.

Wood was knocked around for five runs in 7+ innings during Spring Training. This is par for the course, as he posted a 4.46 ERA in the minors last season. Barring a rash of injuries on the Pirates' big league club, he'll serve as organizational depth.

Pirates optioned RHP Rob Scahill to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The team acquired Scahill from the Rockies in November. He has a career 4.42 ERA and a 35/21 K/BB ratio over 57 innings in the majors. The right-hander will serve as organizational depth for the Pirates.

Orioles placed OF David Lough (hamstring) on the 15-day DL.

This was the expected move. Lough's been dealing with both a sore hamstring and a sore back this spring. The earliest he'll be able to return to the club is April 11, though he's indicated that he's not sure when his hamstring will be ready. On the positive side, Lough said that his back now feels fine.

Pirates optioned RHP John Holdzkom to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The 27-year old posted a 3.38 ERA while pitching eight spring innings. Should the Pirates need additional bullpen depth, Holdzkom could see a call-up later this year. In 2014, he put up a 1.73 ERA over 36+ innings in the minors.
Mar 31 - 8:27 AM

Dodgers signed RHP Freddy Garcia to a minor league contract.

Garcia, 38, pitched in Taiwan last season after failing to make the Braves' Opening Day roster. He held a 4.37 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 17 appearances -- 13 starts -- for the Orioles and Braves in 2013. Garcia will give the Dodgers some rotation depth in the minors with Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) out indefinitely and Brandon Beachy (elbow) working his way back from Tommy John surgery.

MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports that Huston Street isn't expected to complete a contract extension until after Josh Hamilton's situation is resolved.

Hamilton won't be paid while suspended, and the Angels could use those savings on a new deal for Street. It's unclear at this point how long Hamilton -- who is slated to make $23 million in 2015 -- will be suspended, but a resolution is expected prior to Opening Day. Both Street and the Halos appear optimistic that they'll get something done. The closer will make $7 million in 2015 and turns 32 in August.

Koji Uehara said his ailing left hamstring felt the "same as last time" when he tried to throw a bullpen session Monday.

Uehara hasn't pitched in a game since March 14 and remains unable to throw at 100 percent effort off a mound without his hamstring bothering him. The reliever is expected to begin the season on the disabled list and will likely hang back in extended spring training for a bit. Edward Mujica will be the Red Sox' primary closer while Uehara is on the shelf.
