Max Scherzer (thumb) will not make his scheduled start on Tuesday against the Braves.

That had been the presumption but only now has been made official. Nationals manager Matt Williams said that Scherzer probably only needs to be pushed back a couple days instead of missing a full turn through the rotation. Either Tanner Roark or A.J. Cole will start Tuesday in his place.

Trevor May (elbow) threw on Monday with no issues.

May was hit near his right elbow with a line drive during Saturday's start, but it appears that he'll be fine. The 25-year-old boasts a 13/2 K/BB ratio over 14 2/3 innings since taking Ricky Nolasco's (elbow) spot in the rotation but still might be sent down when Nolasco returns.

Jose Bautista (shoulder) is back in the Blue Jays' lineup Monday.

He's in the designated hitter spot and batting cleanup. Bautista admitted that he still has some soreness and tightness in his right shoulder, but he plans to play through it going forward after missing the previous five games. The slugger sports a .149/.322/.426 batting line with four home runs this season.

Joey Butler has gotten off to a smoking hot start for Triple-A Durham, hitting .377 with 12 RBI in his first 17 games.

At 29, we wouldn't really consider Butler a prospect, but that doesn't make his performance any less noteworthy. A Quad-A player for most of his career, Butler was among the Rays' last cuts in spring training. Butler has 14 games of big league experience on his resume and will probably get another chance to contribute at that level later this year.

Cubs optioned RHP Brian Schlitter to Triple-A Iowa.

Schlitter has been touched up for six runs on 10 hits and two walks over 5 2/3 relief frames this season. The Cubs are going with another position player in Junior Lake in his place.
Apr 27 - 4:58 PM

Cubs recalled OF Junior Lake from Triple-A Iowa.

Lake was batting .289/.340/.333 in the early going at Iowa. He'll give the Cubbies a backup option at all three outfield spots.
Apr 27 - 4:57 PM

Astros recalled OF L.J. Hoes from Triple-A Fresno.

Hoes was off to a sizzling .418/.458/.618 start at Fresno. He'll back up at all three outfield positions for the Astros.
Apr 27 - 4:55 PM

Astros optioned RHP Asher Wojciechowski to Triple-A Fresno.

It's the second time he's been sent down in the last two weeks. Wojciechowski holds a 7.31 ERA and 1.88 WHIP over 16 innings this season. The Astros will have to bring someone else up later this week when they need a fifth starter.
