Corey Kluber went the distance against the Royals Wednesday, recording six strikeouts while allowing just one run in a 12-1 victory.

He missed out on a shutout when Alex Rios had an RBI groundout in the ninth inning, but that's hardly anything to quibble over. Kluber permitted just five base knocks on the day and issued just one free pass as the Tribe rolled to a win. The reigning American League Cy Young winner has a superb 172/32 K/BB ratio over 157 innings this season to go along with a 3.44 ERA. He'll get the Angels on the road next.

Randal Grichuk (groin) is back in the Cardinals' starting lineup Wednesday against the Reds.

Jeremy Guthrie was lit up for eight runs -- seven earned -- over 5 1/3 innings in Wednesday's loss to the Indians.

He yielded 10 hits -- including three home runs -- while walking one, hitting three batters and recording just three strikeouts. It could be the last straw for Guthrie, whose ERA on the season now sits at 5.65. Royals manager Ned Yost will decide by next Tuesday whether to keep Guthrie or Chris Young in the rotation.

Reds RHP prospect Robert Stephenson fanned 10 hitters over eight shutout frames Tuesday in a win for Triple-A Louisville.

It was Stephenson's first double-digit strikeout game since getting promoted to Triple-A on July 3. The 105-pitch outing matched the longest of his minor league career. He's logged an outstanding 2.40 ERA during his five-game unbeaten steak. The 2011 first-round pick has struck out 9.97 hitters per nine innings this season. Stephenson was ranked 46th in MLB.com's most recent prospect rankings.
