Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

Jay Bruce had an RBI single in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals.

Bruce was held in check by Cards starter Jaime Garcia, but he got in the action with a run-scoring single against reliever Miguel Socolovich in the ninth. Bruce finished 1-for-4 on the evening. He's somewhat quietly put together a nice stretch recently that has his line up to a respectable .257/.342/.480 with 16 homers and 55 RBI. That resurgence has his trade value up, too, as the deadline approaches.
Jul 28 - 10:52 PM

Greg Holland worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 22nd save as the Royals edged the Indians 2-1 on Tuesday.

Holland issued a one-out walk to Michael Bourn, but he was immediately erased when Mike Aviles grounded into a game-ending double play. The right-hander has struggled thus far in the second half, but is 22-for-25 in save opportunities with a 3.13 ERA and a 35/18 K/BB ratio in 31 2/3 innings overall.
Jul 28 - 10:49 PM

Chris Young got a no-decision, allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings as the Royals defeated the Indians on Tuesday.

Michael Bourn accounted for the only run when he singled to lead off the fifth, then stole second base with one out and scored on catcher Salvador Perez's throwing error. Young gave up five hits and walked three while striking out five. It's the second time in as many starts Young has failed to complete five innings, but he still maintains a productive 3.25 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP and a 66/32 K/BB ratio over 99 2/3 innings. He's set to face the Blue Jays in Toronto next.
Jul 28 - 10:46 PM

Braves designated RHP David Carpenter for assignment.

It's the second time this month he's been removed from the 40-man roster. Assuming Carpenter clears waivers and is outrighted, he'll have the chance to declare free agency if he wants.
Jul 28 - 10:46 PM

Jose Abreu went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI as the White Sox jumped on the Red Sox 9-4 on Tuesday.

Abreu had three of the team's 14 hits on the evening, hitting a two-run homer in the sixth before adding an RBI double in the eighth. The homer was his 16th of the year, giving him 56 RBI. The three-hit night extended his modest hitting streak to eight games while raising his overall line to .296/.349/.489.
Jul 28 - 10:44 PM

Trevor Bauer pitched a nine-inning complete game, allowing two runs, but took a tough-luck loss against the Royals on Tuesday.

The struggling Indians provided Bauer only one run of support. He then went in position for the loss after allowing a solo home run to Eric Hosmer with two outs in the top of the ninth inning. Overall, the right-hander gave up five hits and a walk while striking out six. Bauer has a 4.13 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and a 121/48 K/BB ratio in 124 1/3 innings this season. He will look to avoid a fourth consecutive loss when he takes on the Athletics in Oakland in his next start.
Jul 28 - 10:43 PM

Jason Kipnis went 3-for-4 with a double, but the Indians dropped Tuesday's contest to the Royals.

Kipnis couldn't be brought around to score as the Indians' 2-5 hitters combined to go 2-for-14. The Indians have dropped six games in a row, averaging 1.7 runs per game. But it's not the fault of Kipnis, who has an outstanding .330/.405/.485 triple-slash line on the year.
Jul 28 - 10:40 PM

Eric Hosmer was responsible for both runs as the Royals edged the Indians on Tuesday, finishing 3-for-4.

Hosmer broke a 0-0 tie in the fourth inning with an RBI single, then broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth with a solo home run off of Trevor Bauer. He broke a 25-game homerless drought last week and now has three round-trippers in his last seven games. Hosmer has 11 home runs overall with 55 RBI and a .313/.372/.478 batting line.
