Max Kepler went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Sunday and is hitting just .156 this spring.

Paul Molitor has been experimenting with new lineup combinations every day. Most of them have had Kepler hitting in the middle of the order, but Kepler found himself down at seventh today, and one wonders if he might not start off there after his ice-cold spring. It'd make him a less attractive option in mixed leagues, at least for the short term.

Eddie Rosario finished 3-for-3 from the ninth spot in the order Sunday against the Red Sox.

Rosario played well for Puerto Rico in the WBC and is 10-for-22 in Grapefruit League games. He still figures to bat at the bottom of the lineup, but if he hits, he could get a chance to start against lefties. It helps his case there that he is a strong defensive left fielder.

Christian Lopes hit a walkoff homer off Francisco Rodriguez to give a Blue Jays split-squad a 4-3 win over the Tigers on Sunday.

Lopes, a 2011 seventh-round pick out of high school, hit .295/.357/.401 in Double-A last year to keep himself on the fringes of prospectdom. It's still going to be a difficult path for him, since he's yet to demonstrate any real versatility beyond second base. His path in Toronto hinges on Devon Travis continuing to have difficulties staying healthy.

Jordan Zimmermann yielded one run in 5 1/3 innings Sunday against a Blue Jays split-squad.

Kendrys Morales and Ezequiel Carrera were the only major leaguers the Jays brought for this one, so Zimmermann's performance probably wasn't as encouraging as the line suggests. He'll take it, though; he had given up nine earned runs over two innings in his previous two outings. We have little faith that Zimmermann will rebound to the point of having mixed-league value this year.

Francisco Rodriguez gave up a pair of homers to minor leaguers in the ninth to take a blown save and a loss Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Rodriguez has gotten lit up in both of his official spring appearances and he suffered some groin tightness while pitching in the WBC, but we're not overly worried at this point. He's not an elite closer these days, but he should do well enough for Detroit.

Nicholas Castellanos homered, doubled and walked Sunday against the Blue Jays.

It's pretty much certain now that Castellanos will open up as the Tigers' No. 2 hitter. It's not the ideal spot for him, but it does give his fantasy value a boost. He's a nice late-round option in mixed leagues.
Mar 26 - 4:09 PM

Miguel Cabrera singled in a run and struck out in two at-bats Sunday against the Blue Jays.

Cabrera was making his first appearance since suffering some back tightness in the WBC. He's not going to need many at-bats this week to ensure his presence in the Tigers' Opening Day lineup.

Joe Musgrove held the Nationals to one run over five innings in the Astros' 5-1 victory Sunday.

Musgrove struck out four and walked one while improving to 3-0 this spring. He'll fill in for Collin McHugh in the rotation early next month, and while that might be a short stay, there should be plenty of opportunities for him as the season goes on. He's a fine AL-only pick, and he'll be a streaming option in mixed leagues at times.
