Braves released RHP Luis Vasquez.

It was reported earlier Thursday that he was designated for assignment, but Vasquez has apparently already be cut loose. The righty held an 11.91 ERA over 11 relief appearances at Triple-A Gwinnett.
Jul 31 - 8:48 PM

Tyler Skaggs left Thursday's start against the Orioles with an apparent arm injury.

Skaggs was cruising along, tossing 4 2/3 hitless frames with seven strikeouts, before walking off the field with the Angels' trainer. He appeared to point to his left forearm as he approached the dugout, which obviously isn't a good sign. The Halos should update Skaggs' status soon.
Jul 31 - 8:42 PM

Cliff Lee exited Thursday's start against the Nationals with a left flexor pronator strain.

It's the same injury that caused him to miss two months of action earlier this season. Obviously Lee is headed back to the disabled list, and the probability is high that his 2014 campaign is over. The Phillies just have to hope now that he can avoid surgery and return to pitch in 2015. He's owed approximately $45.8 million through the end of next season.
Jul 31 - 8:33 PM

Chris Dickerson left Thursday's game versus the Mariners with left knee discomfort.

Dickerson tweaked the knee in the second inning while tracking down a Kendrys Morales double. It's not clear at this point whether it might be more than a day-to-day situation, but the Tribe should update things later Thursday.
Jul 31 - 8:22 PM

Marlins general manager Mike Hill said Thursday that Jarred Cosart could make his team debut as soon as Friday against the Reds.

It doesn't appear to be set in stone yet, but he would be on five days' rest that day. Jacob Turner is currently slated to start Friday, so he could be moved to the bullpen or to Triple-A.
Jul 31 - 8:19 PM

Ubaldo Jimenez (ankle) will make another rehab start with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday or Monday.

Jimenez pitched well in his first rehab outing with Short Season-Aberdeen on Tuesday, but he only went 4 2/3 innings and the Orioles want to build his stamina up a bit more. The veteran right-hander should rejoin the rotation late next week.
Jul 31 - 8:15 PM

Chris Davis (illness) remained out of the Orioles' lineup Thursday.

It's the third straight start he's missed due to the flu, though Davis will be available off the bench. He seems likely to be back in the lineup on Friday.
Jul 31 - 8:12 PM

Colby Rasmus was benched Thursday due to tardiness.

Rasmus was apparently consistently late to the park during last weekend's series in New York and showed up well after everyone else on Thursday in Houston. It's not clear at this point if the benching might be a multi-game situation. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons is expected to address the issue shortly.
