Tests have ruled out the possibility that Phil Hughes (biceps) could have thoracic outlet syndrome.

He could receive a second opinion. To this point, Hughes has merely been diagnosed with right biceps tendinitis, but there seems to be a feeling that there might be more going on.

Glen Perkins (shoulder) could begin facing hitters next week.

Perkins is slated to throw two more bullpen sessions before possibly getting the green light to face hitters for the first time since last year's shoulder surgery. He's obviously still facing a long road back, but it looks like progress is being made.

An MRI on Jesse Hahn's ailing right triceps came back negative.

He's still going to be placed on the disabled list, but it looks like Hahn has avoided a serious injury. The right-hander was hurt during Tuesday's start versus the Marlins. It's unclear at this point how long he might be sidelined.

Kyle Schwarber is not in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

The struggling outfield will take a seat against red-hot Dodgers southpaw Alex Wood. Ben Zobrist is in left field and in the leadoff spot and Javy Baez is at second base. The Cubs also have Addison Russell down in the No. 8 spot.

Jose Martinez (groin) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Palm Beach on Friday.

Martinez played in some extended spring training contests before being cleared to participate in some "official" games. He's tracking toward an early June return, assuming there are no hiccups during his rehab.

Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A St. Lucie on Friday.

Cespedes will likely remain with St. Lucie through the weekend before being activated on Monday when the Mets return home, assuming all goes well. He's been out since late April with a strained hamstring.
May 26 - 4:59 PM

Stephen Piscotty is not in the Cardinals' lineup Friday.

Piscotty is just 3-for-19 at the plate since returning from a hamstring issue, so he'll get a day off. Aledmys Diaz is also sitting out, as the Cards have Tommy Pham and Randal Grichuk in the corner outfield spots and Greg Garcia at shortstop.
May 26 - 4:53 PM

Brock Holt (vertigo) will work out on the field and travel with the Red Sox but isn't close to returning to game action.

Holt was pulled off his rehab assignment due to ongoing vertigo symptoms. The feeling is that he'll return at some point this season, but it's totally up in the air as to when that might be.
