Mark Melancon worked around trouble Friday against the Reds for his major league-leading 33rd save of the season.

It wasn't without some drama, as Melancon allowed two hits and a single in the inning. Really, the save should go to Starling Marte, who threw out Brandon Phillips at home plate for the second out before making a diving catch to end it. Melancon hasn't allowed an earned run in 33 consecutive appearances and owns a stingy 1.29 ERA on the year.

David Buchanan picked up his second victory of the season on Friday, limiting the Braves to three runs on eight hits over 7 1/3 innings.

He punched out four and didn't issue a walk in the ballgame.Buchanan held the Braves scoreless through the first six innings in his return to the big leagues but seemed to tire late. He has a golden opportunity to lock down a spot in the Phillies rotation for the remainder of the season and will look to further improve upon his 6.44 ERA when he takes on the Dodgers on Thursday.
Jul 31 - 10:32 PM

Andrew McCutchen slugged a solo homer Friday against the Reds.

McCutchen tied the game in the fifth before the Pirates took the lead for good in the sixth. The 28-year-old has gone deep three times in the last eight games and now has 15 homers and 66 RBI to go along with a .294/.387/.497 batting line.
Jul 31 - 10:31 PM

Jung Ho Kang went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored in Friday's win over the Reds.

Kang had two doubles on the night. He continues to swing and incredibly hot bat, hitting .435 (27-for-62) over his last 17 games. His batting average is now up to .299 on the year.
Jul 31 - 10:30 PM

Marlon Byrd went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk, and two runs scored Friday against the Pirates.

Byrd has gone deep in back-to-back games and now has 18 homers and a .777 OPS on the year. It's a bit surprising he wasn't moved by Friday's non-waiver trade deadline, but there's still a chance a deal could happen in August.
Jul 31 - 10:30 PM

Freddie Freeman belted his 14th home run of the season in a losing effort against the Phillies on Friday.

The Phillies jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in this one, and Freeman's two-run shot in the eighth merely made it a 9-3 ballgame. He also singled in the contest, finishing the night 2-for-4 and raising his season slash to .288/.354/.509 to go along with 14 bombs and 45 RBI.
Jul 31 - 10:30 PM

Williams Perez was clobbered in his return from the disabled list on Friday, giving up nine runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Phillies.

Aside from being extremely hittable, Perez struggled with his command as well, issuing four free passes while striking out three. A three-run double by Ryan Howard and two-run blast by Domonic Brown inflicted the majority of the damage against the right-hander. He'll look to put this beating behind him and get back on track when he does battle against the Giants on Wednesday.
Jul 31 - 10:28 PM

Kyle Kendrick was forced to leave Friday's start against the Cardinals due to inflammation in his right shoulder.

Before departing, the right-hander had surrendered a pair of runs on four hits in his lone inning of work, including a home run by Matt Carpenter. He's considered day-to-day and should be ready to take his next turn through the rotation on Wednesday against the Mariners. He and his 6.43 ERA should continue to be avoided for fantasy purposes.
