Jason Hammel gave up four runs (three earned) over 5 2/3 innings in Friday's loss to the Rangers.

Hammel gave up seven hits and two walks while striking out three. He has lost each of his first three starts with the A's and owns a 7.10 ERA and 8/7 K/BB ratio over 12 2/3 innings. The returns haven't been good so far, but he'll attempt to turn things around next week against the Astros.

Neftali Feliz notched his first save since 2011 in Friday's win over the Athletics.

Back in the closer role after the Joakim Soria trade, Feliz worked around a hit and a walk to deliver a scoreless ninth inning. The 26-year-old doesn't have the same raw stuff he had prior to undergoing Tommy John surgery, so we're a bit skeptical about his ability to keep the job, but the Rangers don't have much to lose at this point. Pick him up in all formats.

Elvis Andrus went 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored Friday against the Athletics.

Andrus entered Friday's action with a lousy .232/.259/.293 batting line this month. The 25-year-old has salvaged some of his value with 20 stolen bases and 51 runs scored, but he remains a major disappointment in fantasy leagues. Of course, a poor supporting cast hasn't helped his cause.

Alex Rios had an RBI single, a walk, and a run scored in Friday's win against the A's.

It was his first RBI since returning from the All-Star break. Rios has surfaced in trade rumors in recent days, but the Rangers would likely have to be overwhelmed to deal him. His contract includes a reasonable $13.5 million club option for 2015, which is almost certain to be picked up.

Jeff Mathis delivered a two-run double in the seventh inning on Friday, leading the Marlins to a 2-0 victory over the Astros.

That would prove to be more than enough run support for Brad Hand who was outstanding on the hill for the Marlins. That critical knock was the lone hit in four at-bats on the night for Mathis, who is hitting just .200/.285/.282 on the season.
Jul 25 - 11:36 PM

Yoenis Cespedes (thumb) had an RBI single and a stolen base in his return to action Friday against the Rangers.

It was the only offense of the night for the A's. Cespedes sat out Thursday's game after he sprained his right thumb on an awkward swing on Wednesday, but it shouldn't be a lingering issue.
Jul 25 - 11:36 PM

Steve Cishek slammed the door on the Astros on Friday, setting down the side in order in the ninth inning, including a pair of strikeouts.

It's the second straight day that Cishek has fired a perfect inning in a save situation, and he has now converted 25 of his 28 chances on the year. There have been some rumblings that he could be made available before the trade deadline, but regardless of what jersey he wears he should remain a very steady source of saves.
Jul 25 - 11:34 PM

Brad Hand absolutely dominated the Astros offense on Friday, hurling 7 1/3 shutout innings while allowing just three hits.

Hand punched out four on the night while walking two. The 24-year-old now owns a 4.19 ERA, 1.51 WHIP and 36/24 K/BB ratio over 53 2/3 innings on the season. He remains an unattractive fantasy option when he takes on the Nationals at home on Wednesday.
