Howie Kendrick homered twice and drove home four runs, leading the Angels to an 11-6 win over the Tigers on Friday.

Serving as the team's DH and hitting in the cleanup spot seemed to come naturally to Kendrick. He tagged starter Drew Smyly with an opposite field two-run shot in the third inning, then blasted another off Luke Putkonen the following inning. He finished the night 3-for-5 and is now hitting .261/.320/.391 on the season.
Apr 18 - 11:01 PM

Albert Pujols continued his march toward the 500 home run club, launching his 497th career long ball in Friday's win over the Tigers in Detroit.

He finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI. He has looked somewhat like the Pujols of old in April, hitting .279/.347/.574 with five homers and 13 RBI. As long as he can manage to stay healthy, it looks as if he'll be incredibly productive hitting behind Mike Trout in the middle of the Angels lineup.
Apr 18 - 10:57 PM

Jered Weaver turned in his best start of the 2014 season, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings in Friday’s victory over the Tigers.

Weaver walked three and struck out three on the night. Even with his velocity down, he was able to keep Tigers hitters off-balance which led to weak contact throughout the game. He now sports a 4.76 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 20/10 K/BB ratio through 24 2/3 innings on the season. He’ll look to replicate this outing when he does battle against the Nationals in Washington on Wednesday.
Apr 18 - 10:55 PM

Ian Kinsler had a nice night at the plate in Friday's loss to the Angels, going 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI.

Kinsler delivered a two-run single to start a five-run uprising in the seventh inning, but it was too-little, too-late for the Tigers. He's off to a phenomenal start at the plate with his new team, slashing .351/.373/.526 with two homers, eight RBI and three stolen bases.
Apr 18 - 10:54 PM

Rajai Davis went 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and swiped his sixth base of the season in Friday's loss to the Angels.

Davis has seen more playing time than anticipated in the first month of the season due to the injury to Andy Dirks, and is making the most of his playing time. He's an elite source of stolen bases and is even hitting .325/.391/.400.
Apr 18 - 10:52 PM

Drew Smyly struggled in his first start of the 2014 season, allowing four runs on six hits over just three innings in Friday’s loss to the Angels.

Smyly walked two and struck out a pair on the evening. Due to scheduled off-days and postponements, it took until April 18 for Smyly to make his first start in the Tigers rotation, and his highly anticipated debut didn’t quite go according to plan. He’ll look to turn things around when he takes on the White Sox at home on Wednesday
Apr 18 - 10:47 PM

David Phelps was removed from Friday's game against the Rays after being hit by a line drive.

No word yet on the severity of the injury, but the team should have an update on his status shortly.
Apr 18 - 10:46 PM

Aaron Harang threw seven no-hit innings in a win over the Mets on Friday.

Harang was pulled after throwing 121 pitches. Six walks cost him a chance to finish off the no-hit bid. The Mets finally got a hit when David Wright singled off Luis Avilan with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. Some questioned the Braves' decision to release Freddy Garcia and sign Harang at the end of spring training, but things have worked out brilliantly for the Braves so far. Through four starts, the 35-year-old has a 0.70 ERA and 22/12 K/BB ratio over 25 2/3 innings. He'll try to keep his surprising resurgence alive next week against the Marlins at home.
