Miguel Montero (back) may not require a rehab assignment.

Montero was placed on the disabled list with a back issue last week but didn't show any ill effects at batting practice on Thursday, even hitting a few home runs. There's a good chance he'll return from the disabled list as soon as his 15 days are up. David Ross and Tim Federowicz have been sharing time behind the plate in his absence.

Chris Bassitt (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on Friday.

We saw the writing on the wall when Bassitt was diagnosed with a torn UCL in his throwing elbow last week. Going by the usual Tommy John timeline, Bassitt won't be back until halfway through next season. Top prospect Sean Manaea has taken Bassitt's place in the starting rotation.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said he wants to see Jimmy Paredes (wrist) hit more during his rehab assignment.

Paredes has hit a dismal .192 (5-for-26) with nine strikeouts since beginning his rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on April 26. The 27-year-old clearly has some rust to shake off. The Orioles are allowed to continue his rehab assignment until May 15. After that, he'll either be recalled or optioned to the minors.

Mariners manager Scott Servais confirmed Joaquin Benoit (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session when the team returns to Seattle next week.

Benoit resumed throwing in the outfield on Sunday after being placed on the disabled list a week earlier with right shoulder inflammation. The 38-year-old produced a 3.60 ERA over five appearances before getting hurt. With Benoit sidelined, Joel Peralta has been filling the setup role ahead of closer Steve Cishek.

Garrett Richards (fatigue) is unlikely to make his scheduled start Friday against the Rays.

He's been dealing with fatigue including dehydration. The Angels are already shorthanded after demoting Matt Shoemaker earlier this week. Another roster move could be on the way. Richards owns the American League's ninth-lowest ERA despite a disappointing 1-3 record.
May 5 - 5:36 PM

Jason Heyward (wrist) expects to play Friday against the Nationals.

Wrist discomfort has kept Heyward out of the lineup since Sunday. He's expected to partake in Thursday's batting practice and see how he feels afterwards. Heyward has gotten off to a slow start (.211, 0 HR, 13 RBI) but he did the same thing last season before setting career-highs in both batting average (.293) and steals (23).
May 5 - 5:26 PM

Brewers recalled RHP Tyler Cravy from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The Brewers need him to make a spot start Friday against the Reds. Wily Peralta (paternity) is only expected to miss one start, so it should be one and done for Cravy. The 26-year-old appeared in five games for Milwaukee earlier this year, compiling a 3.18 ERA while working out of the bullpen.
May 5 - 5:10 PM

Brewers placed RHP Wily Peralta on the paternity leave list.

Peralta's daughter was born on Thursday. Tyler Cravy was called up Triple-A Colorado Springs and will start in Peralta's place Friday against Cincinnati. Peralta should be fine to make his next scheduled start Wednesday against the Marlins.
