Pirates promoted top prospect Tyler Glasnow to Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday.

The 21-year-old right-hander has dominated at every minor league stop and boasts a 2.50 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 88/21 K/BB ratio over 68 1/3 innings between Low-A West Virginia and Double-A Altoona this season. At this rate, he could debut with the Pirates before seasons end.

Pat Venditte (shoulder) is scheduled to work back-to-back games on his minor league rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville on Friday and Saturday.

If all goes well with each of those outings, he could then be cleared to rejoin the Athletics bullpen. Before landing on the disabled list, the 30-year-old switch-pitcher hurled 5 2/3 scoreless innings while registering a 0.53 WHIP and 4/2 K/BB ratio.

Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports reports that the Mets are "pushing hard" to acquire Carlos Gomez from the Brewers.

The Mets are reportedly close to making a big trade for an outfielder, and Gomez would certainly be everything that they are looking for, a dynamic talent who is still relatively inexpensive and under team control through the 2016 season. Stay tuned, as the Mets appear poised to make some noise before the evening is through.

Welington Castillo blasted a pair of home runs off Felix Hernandez on Wednesday, powering the Diamondbacks to an 8-2 victory over the Mariners in Seattle.

Castillo capped off a four-run uprising in the first inning with a two-run blast, then added a solo shot in the fourth. He finished the afternoon 2-for-3 plus a walk and is now hitting .280 (31-for-111) with eight homers and 19 RBI in 35 games with the Diamondbacks.
Jul 29 - 7:53 PM

Patrick Corbin delivered an impressive outing in Wednesday's victory over the Mariners, fanning six over six innings of one-run ball.

Corbin scattered just three hits and a pair of walks on the afternoon. The only damage against him came on an RBI single by Brad Miller in the fourth inning. Since returning from Tommy John surgery, Corbin has compiled a 3.21 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 28 innings. He needs to be owned and started in all mixed leagues at this point. He'll take on the Nationals his next time out in Washington on Tuesday.

Mark Trumbo had a rough day at the dish against his former club on Wednesday, going 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

It was a tough afternoon for most M's hitters against Patrick Corbin, though Trumbo's ineptitude stood out. He's now hitting just .245/.284/.424 on the season with 12 homers and 36 RBI.
Jul 29 - 7:47 PM

Felix Hernandez was hit hard in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, allowing seven runs on 12 hits over 6 2/3 innings.

On the plus side, he did manage to strike out seven while issuing just one walk in the rough outing. His primary nemesis in this one was Welington Castillo who blasted a pair of home runs. Even with this debacle, Hernandez will carry a 3.02 ERA and 131/40 K/BB ratio into a tough matchup against the Rockies at Coors Field on Monday.
