Athletics optioned RHP Chris Bassitt to Triple-A Nashville.

Bassitt had a shot to win the final spot in the A's rotation but really struggled this spring, posting an 8.78 ERA across 13 1/3 innings. He still has a chance to spend a good amount of time in the majors this season.

Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that "signs point" to the Mariners using "what amounts to a modified six-man rotation" this season.

The main reasoning behind the idea would be to keep Taijuan Walker's and James Paxton's innings down, although it would serve to keep all of the Mariners' first five starters more fresh down the stretch. Roenis Elias would be in line to serve as Seattle's "sixth" starter after losing out on the fifth spot to Walker (the Mariners have yet to officially name Walker the No. 5 guy), although Jordan Pries and Danny Hultzen could get a look at some point, as well.

Giants re-assigned RHP Curtis Partch to minor league camp.

He had a Cactus League ERA of 9.00 this spring. Partch will give the Giants some bullpen depth at Triple-A.

Mark Teixeira is expected to be fine after leaving a minor league game Sunday following a hit by pitch on his right knee.

Teixeira limped off the field but was then spotted a few minutes later walking fine while sporting a knee pad. He will not have to undergo any tests.

Joe Blanton is unsure whether he'll use the opt-out clause in his minor league contract.

Blanton will not make the Royals' Opening Day roster, but they hope he'll report to Triple-A Omaha. The veteran right-hander can opt-out of this deal on April 1 or May 15 if he's not in the majors. "We’ll see when that comes," Blanton said. "I don’t know. I haven’t really thought about it yet, to be honest with you." Blanton holds a 2.79 ERA over 9 2/3 innings this spring.

Bruce Rondon (neck) remained out of action on Sunday.

Rondon is feeling better after waking up with a crick in his neck on Saturday but isn't ready for game action just yet. He should be fine in a day or two.

Mark Teixeira had to leave a minor league game on Sunday after being hit on the right knee by a pitch.

Teixeira was limping noticeably as he made his way off the field. It's too early to speculate on the potential seriousness of the injury, but the Yankees should provide an update on his status before long. Teixeira is batting .261/.306/.391 with one homer so far this spring.

Brad Peacock (hip) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday.

Peacock has been brought along slowly this spring as he works his way back from last October's hip surgery. He'll begin the season on the disabled list but could be an option for the Astros relatively early on in the year.
