Marcus Mariota completed 7-of-11 passes for 99 yards and rushed three times for 22 yards in the Titans' third preseason game.
Mariota was a strict pocket quarterback in Tennessee's first two preseason games. He took a read-option play on the Titans' second drive in this one and gained 12 yards on the keeper. Mariota wasn't quite as sharp as he has been against the Chiefs -- he missed Delanie Walker for a potential big play on an underthrow -- but it's been quite an impressive exhibition season for the No. 2 overall pick. Mariota offers upside as a late-QB2 fantasy pick.
Cam Newton completed 17-of-28 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers third preseason game.
He added just one carry for two yards. With Devin Funchess sitting out, Newton targeted Greg Olsen a team-high nine times. He was let down by two Corey Brown drops, including a would-be 30-yard score. Newton's touchdown was a a goal-line pass to Mike Tolbert from two yards out. The Panthers aren't expected to run more read-option despite the loss of Kelvin Benjamin, and Newton's supporting cast makes him hard to trust as more than a low-end QB1. Newton should finish the preseason 26-of-48 for 284 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception.
Tom Brady completed 7-of-13 passes for 84 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the Patriots' third preseason game.
Starting the game and playing 27 snaps, Brady got sacked to end New England's first possession and gained nine years apiece on a pair of scrambles, taking another blow at the end of the second. The first of Brady's interceptions was really a lost fumble by Aaron Dobson, which Peanut Tillman wrestled away. Brady rallied back to hit Scott Chandler for an 18-yard touchdown on a fade pass. He was replaced by Jimmy Garoppolo on the Patriots' first second-half drive.
Alex Smith completed 16-of-18 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns in Kansas City's third preseason game.
Smith led the Chiefs to three straight scoring drives before getting removed in the second quarter. His first touchdown was a 29-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin, and he later hit Travis Kelce on an eight-yard slant in tight coverage. Smith's weapons have improved with the addition of Maclin and rookie Chris Conley, but isn't more than a low-upside QB2. With Chase Daniel expected to start next week, Smith will finish the preseason 33-of-46 for 294 yards, with three touchdowns and an interception.
Jerricho Cotchery caught four balls for 38 yards before leaving the Panthers' third preseason game with a groin injury.
Cotchery is coming off a painfully-slow 2014, but he's Carolina's most-trustworthy wide receiver at this point with Kelvin Benjamin on I.R. Cotchery was the Panthers' chain mover behind Greg Olsen in this one, with inconsistent burners Corey Brown and Ted Ginn working the perimeter. The extent of Cotchery's injury is uncertain. The Panthers can't afford to lose him, too.
Jaguars DE Andre Branch suffered a knee injury in Friday's preseason game.
Branch was immediately ruled out, suggesting it's a serious injury. He's the top backup to Chris Clemons at the LEO spot. 26-year-old Branch is in the final year of his rookie deal.
Albert Wilson left Friday's preseason game with a shoulder injury.
Wilson went down after making a 16-yard catch on the opening drive. The Chiefs are listing his return as questionable, but he's likely done for the game. Wilson's injury gives rookie Chris Conley a chance to play opposite Jeremy Maclin.
Robert Griffin III (concussion) will not be cleared for Saturday's preseason game.
Griffin hasn't been cleared by an independent doctor and remains in the concussion protocol. The Redskins originally expected him to play, but will hold him out at least one more week. Griffin missing Washington's third preseason game is a concern after last week's disastrous performance. The Redskins are starting Kirk Cousins in Griffin's place.
